Still better than most modern computer programs!

Mario Paint was a game for the SNES. It had a bunch of programs that you'd usually find on a computer like Paint, a sprite editor, and stuff like that. Even though I got this when I was very little I was first kind of skeptical because I had done all those things on the computer (remember, this was in the days of Windows 3.1). However, it totally blew me away.

Graphics: 9.5/10
The graphics were beautifully done. All the icons were well done, everything was huge, and they just overall looked great. I mean, since the majority of the game is spent on a paint program, the graphics have to be good or anything you draw can't be good.

Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay, even though it's composed mainly of programs, is still far better than a lot of other games for the SNES. Basically, you have a bunch of programs you can choose from. You have a coloring program, or I should say you have about 3. You have one large one and most of the icons are just options for it. You can draw colors, make text, use stamps, and there's even a program where you can make your own sprites! You can also use the sprites you've made or that are already there and make an animation out of them! There is also a music program which makes composing extremely easy and has a a nice variety of different notes. The sprite making combines well with the stamp option and with the animation program. If that wasn't enough, you also have a nice mini-game where you play as a hand using a fly swatter to hit different types of flies. It sounds stupid but you'd be surprised how incredibly fun and addictive it is. Combined with the other options the gameplay is great.

Control: 10/10
You'd think that a mouse on the SNES to control everything would be terrible. I thought the same thing. How wrong I was. The mouse works perfectly with the game, and I mean perfectly. A controller would've been terrible with it. The mouse, like all mice, has a right and left click, which you use to active different things. The right click doesn't have much use except for in a few programs, but it's still useful. The only thing you need is something hard to move the mouse on and the whole game is at your fingertips.

Sound/Music: 10/10
The music in the background is great, never ceasing to get old no matter how many times I hear it. Like Tetris, you can have 3 main themes to choose from when you're in the main paint program, and every other program has their own music. The music composition program's pre-made songs are also great, and since you can make your own, it has to be good.

Extras: 10/10
There is no limit to what you can do with this game. You can make your own sprites, use them in animations, and make your own music, and finally put it altogether and watch your animation in a theater with the music playing in the background! You can even save the music and animation to the cartridge! The paint program also has 10 slots for you to save your own sprites in, which is really nice. Because of all this you can make most anything with Mario Paint. Heck, I've even made a chess game by making my own sprites of every major Mario character, setting up a board, and use the copy & stamp option. That says something if you can make a chess game out of a still screen and a paint program.

Overall: 9.9/10
The game is excellent. It has very little flaws, if any, is very addictive, and even a child can use it. The games never get old and none of it ever gets tedious. It is one of the best games for the SNES, and one of my favorite games of all time. This is definitely my favorite studio/arts program. Anyone who likes games, or anyone who likes to make computer art/music will love this game, I highly recommend that you play this.

Pros:
Great programs
Easy to use
Amazing extras

Cons:
Nothing really

Rating: 9.9/10
