One of the best beat’em ups up to date

Super Double Dragon was the first Double Dragon game on the SNES, as well as the next one in the series. Unlike the first 3, which have some supernatural enemies and moves, Super Double Dragon is more realistic all having plausible moves and enemies. It’s my personnel favorite of all of them.

Graphics: 9/10
The graphics for an early SNES game are really good. The sprites are well done, although they could've been bigger. They look very detailed and the backgrounds are huge. The enemies are look great too, gradually getting bigger and bigger until they resemble those of Final fight's proportions.

Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay is in some ways better than the original, and some ways not. For one thing which is obvious, you can now play with two players at once, which makes the game alot easier. Another thing which some people argue about which is better is that you no longer learn new moves, instead you already know all of them and its just a matter of mastering how to do them. The combat has evolved quite a bit from the original. Now, you can still punch and kick, as well as do some of the moves you learned in the original. However, you can also block when an enemy attacks, and do a small combo to knock them away. You also have an anger/power meter at the top. If you let it charge up you can either do small kicks, let it rise halfway and then do a giant spin-kick across the screen, or, if you let it charge to full, go into rage mode and suddenly become very strong for a short period of time. The only real problem with the game is that it gets tedious going through all the long levels.

Sound/Music: 9/10
The sound and music is all the classic music you remember from the original Double Dragon remixed, and sounds better than ever. All of the original themes are there, except that in this version it plays the original stage 1 theme at stage 4 and the music is screwed up, but no matter what the order, it's still a good sound-track and I'd pay to have it on cd.

Replay Value: 8/10
The only real problem with the game resides in the Replay Value. The game, like most other fighters, becomes tedious when you play through it. Although the game is very fun on two players, it's so hard after going through wave after wave of enemies it become difficult and sort of tedious.

Overall: 8.8/10
This isn't the best of the double dragon score wise, I just like it the best, and I have good reason to. It has good graphics, good sound, and great gameplay. It was the best one I think that had 2-player combat, and one of the best overall ones. A story would've been nice, but it’s still a good game.

Pros:
Good gameplay

Cons:
No story
Tedious near the end

Rating: 8.8/10
