Double Dragon with the Battletoad engine. Meh

Battletoads/Double Dragon was originally an NES game. This was pretty much an exact port of it, just with better graphics. Even though I've played both, I like this one more because I played it first, and it has better graphics. Even though this is a port, I'm going to rate this as a game since not many people played the original. The graphics are very cartoony, so don't be surprised when everyone's eyes bug out.

Graphics: 7/10
The graphics are pretty much just like the NES game with less pixilated sprites. They are also a bit higher resolution, and the backgrounds are improved alot. The graphics by itself look fairly good. The sprites are detailed, the backgrounds look and feel like they're supposed to, such as it feels futuristic at times, it feels like you’re in this weird space dungeon, and other stuff like that. The bosses are extremely huge and they are very detailed, so my congratulations to the game on that.

Story: 5/10
I'm not even sure if there was a story that they bothered to explain. Anyway, from what it seems the Lee brothers (from Double Dragon), have joined with the Battle Toads to stop the Shadow Boss, and the Queen of Evil from taking over wherever the heck the story takes place. You go through space levels beating up their henchmen until you get to them. You then beat them up and stop them. It's an average story.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay is the standard Battletoads Gameplay. You go around, you punch or kick a guy 3 times and then you do a super move which kills them. You can destroy items, get extra lives, take a leg off a robot and use it as a weapon, etc. The gameplay is very fun and addictive, but I just couldn't give it a higher score because they didn't use the Double Dragon gameplay, which I prefer. Now, I agree this was the smarter thing to do, because it would be even more odd to have Battletoads learning new moves and fighting like the Lee bros, but it still bugs me a bit. Anyway, everyone controls exactly the same (all the toads are the same and all the Lee bros fight the same), so there isn't any difference from who you choose except that the battle animations for the toads are different from the Lee's. Also, the toads can do things the Lee's need an item for and vice versa. For instance, the Lee's need a stick to be able to smash people's heads into the ground. However, the toads can just smash them in with their caricature fists.

Sound/Music: 7/10
The sound and music is good, mostly recycled from the old Battletoad games. There's nothing wrong with it except none of it is really great, and the sound is realistic.

Replay Value: 7/10
The gameplay is strangely addictive, and just for the heck of it you can go through the game with the different characters to see what varies, but the level of replay value isn't very high. While the game may be easy, it's not really fun enough to go through again and again, unless you're playing with a friend.

Overall: 7/10
It's a good game that could've been better. When they ported it Rare should've added some things into it, and made the characters a bit different, but other than that it's good.

Pros:
Fun gameplay

Cons:
Nothing really

Rating: 7/10
