Game: Space Invaders (Atari 2600)
Posted: July 09, 2007 (02:26 PM)
Most whom stumble upon this review probably don't even know what an arcade is. No no, not those gambling stations full of slot machines, the ones that quickly went out of style in the 80's or early 90's that were chock full of fun video game cabinets. One way the Atari 2600 made a lasting name for itself was by porting many of the best arcade classics to the homes of millions. Hey, maybe that's why arcades began dying off around that time? Just a few of these gems that were made into great home ...

Game: Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)

We all know the history of Sega vs. Nintendo. Nintendo probably had at least an 80% share of the market, and it was hard to imagine a company doing better than becoming Pepsi to Nintendo’s Coca-Cola. So here comes Sega with its version of a mascot that could presumably outrun the fastest cheetah, Speedy Gonzales, and of course, Mario.

Game: Kirby's Adventure (NES)
Posted: July 21, 2004 (01:05 PM)
1993. Two years after Super Mario World was released and the SNES was strongly showing off its 16-bit muscle. Nintendo knew that an end to their 8-bit powerhouse was inevitable, but they weren't at peace with letting it die in a less than stellar way. The result was one of the greatest games to ever see the light of day for the system.

Game: Activision Anthology (Game Boy Advance)
Posted: March 26, 2004 (12:09 AM)
Rumors have been around for years about a ''portable system that plays Atari 2600 games.'' Being one whose favorite motto has always been ''I'll believe it when I see it,'' I never gave in to the rumors. Perhaps a portable 2600 was released somewhere, but never nationwide or I'd be one of the first to have my greedy little hands on it. I was one of the first to get my hands on Activision Anthology, a collection of 55 Atari 2600 titles that were all made by what may be the best company tha...

Game: Mortal Kombat (Game Gear)
Posted: March 14, 2004 (01:20 AM)
My how times change. When I was around 12 and 13, all I ever heard from my friends was how awesome Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 were. It seemed like I was the only boy in the world that didn't live in the arcades during the day learning all of Mortal Kombat's moves and then stay up all night playing it at home. To me, it was just OK. Fast forward 10 years and now it seems like i'm an outcast yet again! Ask nearly any other reviewer and they'll be like, ''OMG! MORTAL ...

Game: Super Mario Kart (Super Nintendo)
Posted: February 29, 2004 (11:32 AM)
By 1992, Mario was tired and needed a long vacation. He had conquered the world of video games with engaging, classic platformers that all have his name on them. Super Mario Bros. had saved video games in thousands of people's eyes; Super Mario Bros. 2 was strange, yet classic nonetheless; Super Mario Bros. 3 became the biggest selling video game in history, and as many would argue, the best game ever up to this point. Finally, Super Mario World showed the world that ...

Game: Mega Man 2 (NES)
Posted: January 18, 2004 (08:00 AM)
Did you ever have any friends when you were a kid, like in elementary school, that you were best friends in the world with? It seemed like nothing could tear you apart. But one day down the road in high school, you two eventually became nothing more than just another face in the crowd to each other with seemingly no regard whatsoever as to the great times you've had in the past. You see a former friend you haven't seen in a few years in the hallway and part of you wants to walk up to them and sa...

Game: NBA Hangtime (Nintendo 64)
Posted: January 17, 2004 (10:31 PM)
By the time of NBA Hangtime's release, the NBA Jam series had proved to the world that it deserves a place among the best sports games of all time. Even many non-sports video game fans (such as myself) loved NBA Jam and NBA Jam T.E. Both titles deemed themselves worthy of the Video Game Hall of Fame; it's unfortunate that there's no such thing.

Game: Pole Position (Arcade)
Posted: January 16, 2004 (09:52 PM)
I remember a few years ago when just about every arcade I would go to had a Pole Position cabinet backed against a corner somewhere inside. Many of the small arcades (here's to remembering Battles Skating Rink!) didn't have any racing games but Pole Position.

Game: Centipede (Arcade)
Posted: January 16, 2004 (09:31 PM)
Centipede. Now that was always a fun and original game. I had played and enjoyed it for years on the Atari 2600 before I ever saw it in the arcade. Once I finally got the chance to play the arcade version of it, I noticed that the graphics were a lot different from the 2600 version (well that's a gimme), and that the gameplay seemed a bit faster. But the biggest difference between the two is the way the game is controlled.
