User: JoeTheDestroyerTitle: Tentative Halloween review schedule Posted: September 11, 2012 (01:07 AM)
Once again, I'm planning on hitting up some horror games this Halloween. I've rounded up some titles that I -might- cover both here and at Realm of Gaming this year. I hope this year will not turn out like the last one where I was ill for most of October and unable to do many reviews, except a whole crap ton in the last week.
For HG, I'm mostly doing retro reviews. For RoG, I'll be doing a mix of retro and anything semi-curren the side could use. Anyway, I hope to hit: HG: BloodRayne (GCN) Clock Tower (PSX) Dr. Chaos (NES) Frankenstein: The Monster Returns (NES) Frankenstein's Monster (Atari 2600) Ghost Manor (Atari 2600) Haunted House (Atari 2600) Soul (Xbox 360) Sweet Home (NES) Zombie Nation (NES) Zombie Shooter 2 (PC) Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES) RoG: Alan Wake (PC) Cthulhu Saves the World (Xbox 360) Darkness, The (PS3) Doom (PC) Escape from Bug Island (Wii) Ghouls 'N Ghosts (GEN) Home (PC) Hydrophobia (PC) Larva Mortus (PC) Shadowgate (NES) Slender (PC) Super Castlevania IV (SNES) I'll probably start writing these reviews tomorrow, and playing/replaying some of the games that need to be played. Because of this, my reviews this month might slow to a trickle. I still plan to hit Mega Man 2 on this site and Planet Crashers on RoG at the very least, though I would like to have Batman Returns done as well. Scrapped projects: Werewolf: The Last Warrior (NES)- I really don't feel like playing through this game right now. Nation Red (PC)- I had no idea it was chiefly a multiplayer game. It's not really what I'm looking for for this project. Ghost Slayer (Wii)- Another game I don't feel like playing right now. Maybe next year. DecapAttack (Genesis)- Trying to trim the retro fat for my RoG submissions. I also feel this review would be more at home here at HG, with something newer (possibly indie) for RoG.

...and I'm done doing Atari 2600 for a while. I have two rough drafts for Tutakham and Atlantis set. I just want to type up a No Escape! review before moving on.

Thank you both very much!

Hey, congrats! The kid sounds really cute. :)
It's a shame you put this in your blog. I don't think people read these anymore, so that's probably why you didn't get any responses. I'm glad I checked, though! I was wondering when this day would come. Good luck with raising the little guy. If we happen to see any activity from you in the next few weeks / months, then great. But if not, that's fine, too. You have a whole new chapter in your life now, and I hope you enjoy it.

My son, Grayson, was born today about quarter to 2 PM. 8lbs, 10 oz, healthy, and a very irritable sleeper like his dad [seriously, you lightly nudge this kid and he's like, "I'm trying to SLEEEEEEP WAAAAAAAAAH!"]. As such, you probably won't see much of me over the next few weeks. I hope to continue retro reviews, writing them if I get any downtime. I hope to complete some more Atari 2600 reviews (rewriting my reviews for Shark Attack and Tax Avoiders, and covering some games I haven't reviewed yet) before moving on to something like NES, arcade or Game Boy rewrites.

User: JoeTheDestroyerTitle: Yes, I bought Don't Die Dateless, Dummy. Yes, I intend to review it eventually. Posted: April 24, 2012 (11:08 AM)
No, I don't think I'm going to enjoy it. Not one bit.

Didn't get any physical games, though I wanted the new Mario. I did download 4 digital games, though, and...
Pushmo is addictive. Mutant Mudds is pretty fun. Gargoyle's Quest is old school goodness. Dragon Crystal sucks.

User: JoeTheDestroyerTitle: Converting the rest of my Atari 2600 reviews Posted: April 07, 2012 (02:17 PM)
With the exception of my system review (which I don't feel like rewriting, and may even have removed from GF in the future), I'm rewriting the rest of my Atari 2600 reviews and posting them here. I know, it's probably more 2600 than one person should cover, but that was part of my original plan in coming here to HG--converting most of my old GameFAQs work to new reviews. So, in the future, expect:
I'm also planning on hitting three or more 2600 games that don't currently have reviews here:

Yeah. It's one of those that got quite a lot of mixed reviews but remained popular enough for Hideo Koshima to continue the franchise. Unlike Legend of Dragoon.
In any case, I gave the game an 8 after playing it for the first time ten years or so after it first came out, and I still thought it was pretty good. Not so confident about the other games in the series, but since I haven't played all of them yet (only played MGS2 so far), either.

User: JoeTheDestroyerTitle: Is Kingdoms of Amalur truly 'better than Skyrim'? Posted: February 10, 2012 (04:48 AM)
I haven't read any professional reviews of KoA just yet, but what I've heard via word of mouth is that it's decent yet repetitive. Just curious...

Cool. You should post maps of every day for this week, then slow it to once every few days / every week as the game progresses. (Since I imagine after a while, a map a day will become too much).

I had a nice list of games I wanted to cover within the weeks, mainly including Demon's Souls, Jett Rocket, and Mario Bros. (arcade). With recent developments, I've put those on the side for now. Yes I will get to them, just not right now.
In the coming weeks, I'd like to hit a few key games I've played and others from my collection that I probably won't touch again. I'll sell them on eBay afterwords, but I'd like to have them here for the time being for reference. I'll also be covering a few titles for Realm of Gaming, so check there now and then. What I'm hitting: Secret games- [classified; there Godzilla 2: War of the Monsters- Did I really just add this game after publishing this blog? Yeah, I did. Yet another dreadful game that I forgot to mention I was going to cover soon. Darkstone- I'm almost going to miss this game. It's a shame I have to rip into it. Most of these are going to be middle scores (4-6). I'd like to hit some positive titles afterwords to purge the overbearing meh-ness I'm likely to feel after covering these. Thankfully, Valkyria Chronicles is keeping me quite entertained, which is more than I can say for about the last four or five games I've gone through.

User: JoeTheDestroyerTitle: Wow, White Knight Chronicles was a huge letdown... Posted: January 14, 2012 (05:09 AM)
Two hours into playing this game, I looked at Game Rankings and wondered why there were so many low scores. Now I know why. It has what I call a 'money-saver ending'. Now I know not to waste my cash on the sequel (especially if fleinn's review of it is any indication).

Wow, you're alive!
Also, this post is largely confusing in its vagueness.... So I'll just say, you should do whatever makes you happy. As long as you feel satisfied doing what you're doing, then nothing else matters.

Boo. No mention of me in here. =P
Haha. That's okay. I'm not doing one of these this year so won't even have a chance of mentioning you. So it's fair. :-P

The last few games I've played--Folklore, Lost Planet, and White Knight Chronicles--all have one annoying thing in common: falling down.
I'm not sure why developers choose to do this, but I've played many action titles where enemies constantly knock your characters off his feet. You'd think he'd leap back up or rise quickly so the pace doesn't drop, but nooooooo... He has to lay there for eons pondering the meaning of life, then slowly collect himelf, and finally make an agonizing ascent to his feet. Two seconds later, you're back on the ground and the process begins anew. Some games are even so cheap as to repeat this process until you expire. What does this add to a game? Why do developers insist upon using it? Sure, this doesn't damn a game's overall rating, but it can make a less-than-impressive title quite painful. It doesn't add to the challenge factor, it doesn't add realism. It doesn't add anything. So I'm left wondering: why?

That's a lot of musicians for me to look up. Sadly, I won't be able to do much until I get my new computer and external HDD.

I think my copy of Wizardry 8 vanished when my dad was moved into a nursing home. D= I'll have to see if I can find it on Steam one of these days. That game easily made my top ten favorite games of all time list.
