Title: 1st Review of 2009

Just reviewed Rhapsody (DS). Hope to do some more. I'll be tracking them this year and hopefully will have more than 5 to report on like last year. =P

Title: Hi everyone.

I haven't been around lately. I missed this site. I've just been trying to get my life back together, as it's been a really shitty year. How's everyone doing?
I just did a review for Shadow Hearts. Hope it turned out okay despite the length (nearly 2000 words. Ugh.)
Title: Growing Up
Posted: October 17, 2008 (12:47 AM)
Do you think people can ever truly "grow up", or can they just mask their true self and try to change the way they act the best they can? And if it's the second thing, does it really matter if they've 'changed' as long as they seemingly have?
Title: I just did a review.

Koudelka. It's one of my better ones in a while, I think.
Link coming when it gets posted.
Title: DS Awesomeness
Posted: September 25, 2008 (12:59 AM)
Holy shit, look at what's come out for the DS in the last week or so:
- Dragon Quest IV
- Kirby Super Star Ultra
- Lego Batman
I know the first four are remakes and the last one is like the other Lego games apparently, but goddamn.
I'll be a busy dude now. I just wish Mega Man 9 would have come out on it..

I just beat Tales of the Abyss, and Pirates of Dark Water for SNES can kiss my ass.
Just installed MAME again, time to play all the kick ass beat em ups I missed.

Title: Gaming Progress
Posted: July 19, 2008 (01:00 AM)
Not too much lately, just a couple of PS2 games.
NCAA Football 09 - Using Maryland for my dynasty. 5-0 after an insanely easy win over #9 Clemson.. at Clemson. If only it would be so easy in real life for the Terps!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The old one, first in a trilogy. Not as bad as I remembered, but still pretty bland and boring. 4 of 6 stages completed.
Not much in a gaming mood lately, plus I have been in more of a "casual game" mood lately with mostly playing shooters and beat em ups. I have a pile of PS2 compilations and shooters to play as well.
Anyone have recommendations for good SNES/Genesis beat em ups and shooters, while I am in the mood for them?
Posted: July 05, 2008 (05:21 PM)
Has anyone heard of Varth, an old Arcade shooter from Capcom?
I was scrolling through the (disappointing) list of games on Capcom Classics Remixed for PSP and saw this one, and it looked like a cool 1941 clone so I figured I'd give it a shot.
Wow. I suck at shooters, but this is a crazy hard game.
After four hours, I am on stage 24. Which is a repeat of the stage 15 boss, who took me 47 tries to beat. And he's harder now. And my weapon's not as good. And planes don't give out extra bombs when you kill them now.
I'm probably not going to beat this one. :/
Title: Oh my god.
Posted: July 04, 2008 (07:49 PM)
The last few weeks, I've been having worse and worse back/leg pains. Percocet has been helping, though.
Yesterday, I woke up howling in pain, and ever since then my hands have been near numb (when they're not burning), and there's been super sharp shooting pains running up and down my leg. Not to mention the BACK PAIN FROM HELL. It's horrible. Percocet's not even really helping any more :(
I did some research online, and I am fairly convinced I have a pinched nerve in my back, or sciatica. Seems like it. :/
I'll probably have to go to the hospital again :/ Injectable painkillers for the win.
Title: 50 reviews away from 500...
Posted: July 03, 2008 (08:55 AM)
I'm just so lazy and don't think I will ever hit that "magic number".
I think part of the "problem" is I actually care about writing a halfway decent review. I used to not bother to care and that's why I churned out a billion per month.
Oh, and CHRONO TRIGGER DS.
Title: Arc the Lad
Posted: May 27, 2008 (08:55 AM)
They should have called this game Arc the Mighty Ass Kicker and a Bunch of Scrubs. I mean, jesus, the final battle has you going against your dark clones, 7 vs 7. My dark clone magician casts a magic spell that kills six of my seven characters and barely phases Arc. Usually this would be an issue.. except Arc kills all the clones by himself without even needing to heal.
Almost every freaking battle towards the end was like that. Good lord, I hope part 2 is more balanced.
Title: Back to reviewing for now!
Posted: May 20, 2008 (12:10 PM)
I finally got a bug up my ass over the weekend and submitted reviews for Final Fantasy III and Front Mission, both for DS (and both were released for older consoles a long time ago, coincidentally enough). I know the reviews kind of suck, but hopefully I will improve if I keep writing again.
That makes 450 reviews, though. Wow.
Title: Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
Posted: May 20, 2008 (12:08 PM)
Has anyone played this game? It is one hell of an incredible game, in my opinion. I am personally biased against LOTR stuff, since the movies are like 3 hours long each and I don't have the patience to watch that kind of fantasy movie for that long.
However, this is more than a LOTR game. I skip all the LOTR movie cutscenes throughout, and I get a basic easy to follow storyline that involve apparently minor characters from the movies. Good enough.
The gameplay is some of the most incredibly addictive stuff I've played, though. I have played about 13 hours the last 2 days, seriously. It has a battle system with FFX-like elements in that there's a battle gauge in the upper right hand corner, and you can switch characters in and out of battle at will. Each character has two separate skill sets, and each time you use a skill you gain 1 point in that skill set. If you unlock enough skill points, you get the next skill on the list. The game even lets you decide what skill you want to learn next, to a certain extent.
The difficulty is a little out of balance, as the game suddenly gets hard at random spots, and a couple of battles have driven me nuts so far, but overall I am totally impressed with this one.

After not playing any games for 9 days or so, I just played Final Fantasy 2 for 7 hours straight.
Sometimes, linear RPGs are what I crave.
Title: What a shitload of fuck.
Posted: July 28, 2007 (11:47 AM)
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance has to be the worst Metroidvania BY FAR. I'd give it a 3 if I could beat it, unfortunately..
Okay, I've been playing this game almost all day, and I am up to the part where I just beat Max Slimer and Death told me about the 2nd castle. Now, he went into the teleporter thing and it locked up behind him, and I can't seem to get in it. I've pushed up at it countless times and it just remains locked.
Yes, 78.3% done and I'm stuck in some obscure place that I can't figure out why.
Fuck this piece of shit game.
Title: It's impossible to read the blogs page on here for me.
Posted: June 04, 2007 (04:12 PM)
How come the screen stretches way across? It's hard to explain but imagine a FAQ with no line breaks and thats what I get when I access the HG Blogs page all the time.
I am using Safari for Mac, but Firefox does the same thing.
Title: Maybe I'm getting back into gaming after all.
Posted: May 25, 2007 (11:43 AM)
I used to be able to play games for HOURS, but lately it seems I have the attention span of a cockroach.
Playing a game for an hour in a row is considered an achievement for me. Xenosaga Episode 1 is the only game in a long time to really hook me.
Even games like FF12 and Tales of the Abyss failed to keep my attention for long periods of time.
Lately though, besides Xenosaga, I've been playing Seiken 3 for hours on end, and last night I started Suikoden and played it for 2 hours straight.
Anyone else go through gaming withdrawls and find it hard for games to hook them?
Title: Essential GB and Genesis games
Posted: May 14, 2007 (02:11 PM)
I really haven't played too many Game Boy and Genesis games, so if anyone has any ideas for good games, let me know.
I'm especially interested in RPGs and shooters, and chances are I know the big name titles, so if anyone has any underrated essential games (like I hear Gaiares or whatever for Genesis rocks), please tell me.

Finally finished my damn FF6 FAQ after six years or so.
Posted: March 13, 2007 (05:15 PM)
I just beat Xenosaga and typed a review for it. :)
That's now 8 games beaten this year. I'm going for 52.
I also have done 3 reviews this year. 97 more to my goal!
I don't know what RPG to start while waiitng to get Episode 2.. probably Lost Kingdoms.
