Staff review by Rob Hamilton (August 20, 2006) For a hand-held game, it’s pretty top-of-the-line, but I’ve never felt that portable systems and shooters were the best match. There’s no way to even come close to duplicating that magical arcade feeling on a screen the size of a potato. Instead of being so enthralled by this very respectable title that I was able to instantly unleash the shooter review to end all shooter reviews....I found myself wishing I’d scrapped the whole idea and just played M.U.S.H.A. again. I liked the game, but by the time I was done, I merely felt I’d played a good hand-held shooter, as opposed to a good shooter, period. |

Staff review by Rob Hamilton (January 26, 2006) There were a few areas that were genuinely fun, like a stage placing me above a railroad track complete with robots rocketing off a train to challenge my ship at its level, but much of this game was the sort of personality-free drek that has provided the backbone for mediocre shooters throughout time. |

Reader review by goldenvortex (April 29, 2005) GG Shinobi is not a down sized conversion of the original arcade game. Nor is it a shrunken down version of the Mega Drive’s The Revenge of Shinobi. It’s a completely different kettle of fish from any Shinobi game featuring a collection of five (yes, five) versions of the legendary Joe Mushashi. Reader review by sclemmons (February 22, 2005) The Gamegear was practically devoid of any RPG’s except for around 20 some, about a fifth of which came stateside. Defenders of Oasis was a RPG that happened to get lucky and find a publisher that brought it to the states. There are no idiosyncrasies that lift Defenders of Oasis above and beyond other turn based RPGS that were out at the time. It’s simply just a game that’s both brief and entertaining. Definitely worthy of your time. |

Reader review by ceredig (November 24, 2004) A good handheld football game is about as common as Wales qualifying for a major Championship (and I should know, I still have nightmares about the Romania and Russia play-offs). Strike that, it’s rarer. There isn’t one portable computer game out there which can genuinely be considered a definitive simulation of the beautiful game. They’re all pretty much terrible. Until Konami bring their Pro Evo series to the DS and PSP, it’s unlikely that a quality handheld footie game will ever see the light... |

Many of its incarnations were mightily superior to its Madden equivalent. But now on the Game Gear we see one of Acclaim's earlier attempts at cornering the American Football market. |

Reader review by ceredig (November 20, 2004) If asked what your favourite puzzle games are, most you would probably reply mentioning at least one version of Tetris. Be it Tetris Worlds or Tetrisphere, the Russian puzzler is by far the world’s favourite computer game puzzle. There are, however, many alternatives to Tetris, but few which can rival its simple yet addictive gamplay. Sega though, have always liked a good challenge, and an arcade-like puzzler may be what is required to topple the Russian King from his throne of computer puzzling... |

Reader review by retro (March 14, 2004) My how times change. When I was around 12 and 13, all I ever heard from my friends was how awesome Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 were. It seemed like I was the only boy in the world that didn't live in the arcades during the day learning all of Mortal Kombat's moves and then stay up all night playing it at home. We’ve seen him before; he took on Greedy in his side-scrolling Sega Genesis adventure with such style and grace as to cement for himself a place among the very best in his genre. The cutesy platformer genre (also known as the mascot genre) was imbued with the young star’s startling brilliance, and though Ristar never achieved the popularity of a Super Mario, or a Sonic, those who have taken control of the celestial phenomenon know his greatness. |

When the boys inquire why their cheapskate uncle couldn't buy them something good, like BeyBlades or whatever it is kids like, the despicable miser tells them a lame copout tale of his rise to riches from a time when he started out with just one dime (snicker). |
