Reader review by JoeTheDestroyer (November 09, 2011) Only six levels, very few chances to test out new weapons, and situations we've seen before (magical though they are)... Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge is not going to satisfy most gamers, especially those without a hankering for retro or a deep love for Mega Man. Only the hardcore fans will seek this one out and enjoy it, though maybe not as much as they would other contributions to the vast franchise. |

Staff review by Marc Golding (August 06, 2011) The GameBoy iteration of R-Type II managed to take the already flawed and decidedly obnoxious arcade experience, and made it loathsome and near-unplayable. |

Reader review by JoeTheDestroyer (May 22, 2011) Fists. That's it. There are no guns, no grenades, not even a knife, a sword or a broken bottle. The only time you do get to use a weapon in this game is for one boss battle, but outside that you have to punch both of the different enemies to death. |

Reader review by JoeTheDestroyer (April 27, 2011) Escaping the woods to the mess hall offers no solace. There the platforming is nixed and an all out food fight ensues. While this sounds like an exciting battle royale involving food and foolery, it's merely a scene of straightforward side-scrolling with the occasional press of the B button. Leave it up to Imagineering to make murdering someone with a hamburger or piece of broccoli feel tedious. |

Reader review by JoeTheDestroyer (December 30, 2010) Imagine: a run 'n gun game where you play as a tough LAPD cop who looks like he's twelve, surrounded by giant pill bugs, vicious cartoony dogs, and killer music notes, your trusty standard issue handgun drawn and your sentient mech sidekick at your side. Do I sense the makings for a buddy cop film? The landscape is wondrous, but the alien world they are on looks forbidding. The two are grateful to have one another. They know their trials will be many, but don't realize they won't be very try... |

Staff review by Rob Hamilton (September 30, 2009) You control a gladiator enslaved by Dark Lord, but within moments, you escape.....and have the bad luck to immediately run into Dark Lord and his pal Julius while they're plotting nefarious deeds. They notice you and decide that tossing you off a cliff is a fitting punishment for eavesdropping. Fortunately, since you are the game's hero, you survive and embark on all sorts of heroic tasks — in particular, attempting to protect a young woman from the dastardly forces of evil, as she seems to be essential to their plans. |

Reader review by joseph_valencia (June 05, 2009) Reader, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue” is indeed radical, and it has rescuing of the highest degree. It's an adventure game, and it puts lesser peers like “Super Hemorrhoid” and “Sellout 3” to shame. It is absolutely fun to play, rewarding to explore, and brutal in its challenges. Most of all, it washed away the awful taste of “Back from the Sewers”. |

Reader review by joseph_valencia (June 04, 2009) “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back from the Sewers” is the kind of game I thought “Fall of the Foot Clan” would turn out to be. That is to say…it sucked. Amiable is not the word for this one. As a matter of fact, “Sewers” demands three words to describe it: incompetent, plodding, and annoying. I pity the Turtle fans in 1991 whose parents bought them this game instead of “Manhattan Project”. |

Reader review by joseph_valencia (June 04, 2009) Here is a game I didn’t expect to like. A basic, monochrome Gameboy game released to cash-in on a more elaborate console version. Guess what? I enjoyed “Fall of the Foot Clan” more than “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game”. Both were released in 1990. One is a bloated port of a superior coin-op experience, the other a humble and efficient portable actioner. (If that word doesn’t exist, I’m coining it right here.) |

Staff review by Jackie Curtis (December 14, 2008) Two levels amongst the dozen total stand out; the conclusion of the second world forces Mario into a missile-armed submarine for some side-scrolling shmup action while in the finale he becomes a red baron and takes to the skies to battle bird menace Biokinton and final boss Tatanga in a similar manner. Never before, and never since, has Mario strayed into this genre, and though relatively easy forays, the best reason to play Super Mario Land is for these novelties. The simple departures from the formulaic platforming are endearing; there's an unuttered joy in bursting blocks and collecting coins far from the established series manner. And if you'd rather be bopping enemies on the head, these levels hardly overstay their welcome. More likely you'll be wanting more. |

Staff review by Rob Hamilton (December 11, 2008) Virtually all of this level is you in a race against time while spikes descend upon you, chase you as you ascend a tower and follow after you while you sprint to the left. You'll be jumping across plummeting platforms and narrow blocks like crazy, whipping worms who stand in your path and doing whatever you can to stay ahead of the pursuing spikes. With a character that neither jumps nor moves well. After getting through all that, I was so mentally drained I wasn't even bothered by how pitifully weak the humanoid bat creature boss wound up being. |

Reader review by bigcj34 (December 06, 2008) I remember the days when Pokemon was all the rage in my primary school years. Trading card swapping was everywhere, rushing from school to catch the program on TV and eventually most schools banned any merchandise being brought in because of card theft. How dare they! Those were the days when everyone kept saying Pokemon would never go out of fashion… |
