Not much in this entry, too. More like a debriefing.

-GAMES-

Zombie Army Trilogy: After writing my previous entry on how this review was taking a bit of a toll on me, I actually put the review on hiatus for about four days to play a little longer. At that point in time, I spent a little over 2 weeks with the game, but even seven paragraphs deep into a review, I still felt uncomfortable finishing it without a final push that involved poking in certain corners of its difficulty settings.

One thing I ultimately left out of the review, due to its already large length, was the fact that you can fiddle with the zombie ratio in pre-game setup. The default is based on how many players are in the game, buuuuuuut, if you're going solo, you can still crank up the zombie crowd as if it were a 4 player session. I thought this might make a significant difference with campaign, but as it turns out, it just turned shooting zombies into a chore than a fun challenge. Another thing I choose to leave out was my complaint of the horde map titled Dead End; it's an alleyway, which means the map is literally a straight map, which makes it the easiest map in horde mode. Guess what map you're likely to get thrown into if you choose "ALL" when connecting? Yeah. It's likely because it's the map you're most likely to bag a lot of trophies on.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes: I was thinking about how data from GZ was going to transfer over to The Phantom Pain... and that's when I remembered my Xbox 360 data won't transfer over to the PS4! I didn't mind buying the game for a second time, since I had fun times with the Xbox 360 version. Even before regaining control of Big Boss, I remembered the layout of the game... but apparently my skills have rusted a bit since I last played this in 2014. I played the game so much back then, that I was able to sprint from one side of the base to the other without getting caught.

As an aside, Big Boss in Ground Zeroes has one of the coolest running animations in video games.

Playing the game again, I took this opportunity to make some comparisons, and I came away a bit surprised. Ground Zeroes certainly runs much smoother and looks flashier on the PS4, but I wouldn't say by a HUGE margin. For those who played this on the 360/PS3, I wouldn't say you're missing on much. Dunno if I can say the same for The Phantom Pain, since it's a bigger game.

Another thing that shocked me was that this version also had odd problems keeping characters on screen. Like, if you try looking into the distance with the binoculars, some soldiers aren't immediately on the map, they fade into existence. Also, if I managed to gather a huge group of tranquilized soldiers to kidnap with the helicopter, some of them just vanish. They're STILL there, but only appear if I, like, throw some of them in the heli, or move away while facing the opposite direction, then turn around. There was even a moment where a tranquilized soldier disappeared while a soldier was patrolling the area, but when I got closer, he reappeared and the soldier spotted him.

I figured this was a performance issue with FOX engine on the 360/PS3, but apparently it's a thing with FOX engine itself and/or how the devs are using it. I hope this doesn't becoming a pressing issue with The Phantom Pain.

Another odd thing that happened was, after I completed the main game, Ground Zeroes, the final cutscene (after the credits and all that) refused to load. All I got was a black screen. After reloading the save a few times, I looked online to see if this was a legitimate issue. As it turns out, the final cutscene is NOT within the game itself, and is actually streamed from online. Apparently, I caught it on a bad day, so I had to sit there and wait for the cutscene to load after 3 minutes. I hope this doesn't become a problem years later, as you flatout can't complete the main game until that cutscene plays...

-MOVIES

Still didn't get a chance to see the new Mission: Impossible, which bugs me because I've been hearing that it's actually a good movie.

I had some disappearing shrubs in the area with the first prisoner in GZ on PS3. If I recall, I also had trouble getting trophies to pop. I'm considering getting the Steam version but I'm still unsure (same with trying Phantom Pain). The last cutscene streaming is really weird.

Oh, I completely forgot there's going to be a PC version, too. Hopefully it won't have any damaging launch day problems for PC gamers.

The world calls for wetwork, and we answer. Took advantage of the PP pre-order which includes GZ on Steam. Had fun running through again, will start side ops soon.

Cool. Hope you'll have a smooth experience with PP when that comes out.
