Interesting how looking up the term 'mecha' lead me to a WTF plot twist... (spoilers)
August 09, 2010

So, in an upcoming review, I used the word 'mech' several times, but I wasn't sure that was the correct or original term, so I did a quick google search. Of course, the first link lead to Wikipedia... I went and read a little of the history at the beginning of the page, which eventually lead me to a mention of Mazinger Z.

I clicked on that link just for the hell of it. I then read a bit of the info on that page, and decided to click on a link to Go Nagai's wiki page. I was greeted by a picture of Go Nagai waving back at me. Read basically the "First success and controversies" section. At this point, I was like, "What the hell, lemme read about Devilman while I'm at it."

I read the plot section, to see what the hell the story was really about, which eventually lead into the manga's ending: Devilman/Akira's "girlfriend" is killed by a human horde, he finds her dismembered body, and then he goes off to fight satan, where the story concludes with the world blowing up and Devilman being defeated.

o_O

This in turn lead to a half-assed search where I wanted to find scans of these moments, but gave up when I magically stumbled into TV Tropes and spent most of the night reading stupid tropes, one of which lead me to this.... interesting YouTube clip:

Damn you, mecha!

I don't watch much anime anymore (okay, I don't watch ANY anime anymore) but if I did I'd probably be watching One Piece.
