Metal Slug XX

I'm actually glad I held off reviewing this when it first came out, because I would have had a completely different opinion on it. When I finally decided to review it, I thought it would be best to play through all the games on Anthology first, to get a better impression on where XX stands. To think, I was so close to claiming it was better than MS6 in a review.

This was actually the same situation I was in with Mega Man 10. I had a clouded impression of the game, since I couldn't remember if similar things happened in past games, whether they were better then, and exactly which ones, too. And I wasn't exactly in the mood to play through 9 Mega Man games, so I passed on reviewing it.

I think that your review turned out really well. It was a good read and, though I don't agree with your conclusios (I think they discount or ignore some interesting things that Metal Slug 7 was the first in the series to do), I felt that your writing was engaging and should give readers a good idea of what to expect from the game. There were lots of junkyard bits, too, that's for sure.

Thanks, Jason, glad you liked reading it.

You should have just read all my old Mega Man reviews and used them as the basis for your opinion!

As a side note, I'm a fan of Mega Man, but blasting through 6 NES games, 2 SNES and 1 GBA RPG with him in a relatively short period of time just burnt me out on him. In recent computer housecleanings, where I dump games I've decided I likely never will play to clear hard drive space (a necessity with a old, primitive computer where you don't have a massive, near-infinite amount of space), the sequels to the GBA MM RPG and the MM Zero GBA series went to trash...and the SNES MMX games almost did. The games are fun, but it seemed like Capcom whored MM out too much, giving the public a game just like the last one with a couple minor tweaks every year for forever.

I like Mega Man more than Overdrive, I think. I would never consider dumping the standard or X games. Ever. They're pillars of my childhood obsession with gaming and the fun I got from playing them fuels my passion--what's left of it--to this day. It's criminal that I haven't yet paid to get a card and download Mega Man 10, and I plan to rectify that sometime soon. A review will likely follow.

Hmm, I actually wouldn't mind replaying all ten games, but I don't have the time. Plus, I bet I'll be tired before getting anywhere near Mega Man 10.
