For the last few days, I decided to rewatch Gundam Wing. It's been about 15 years since I've seen some of it air in Japan, and about 10 since I've watched the dub, and I wasn't really fond of it back then, though, I decided to give it a second chance and rewatch the entire 49-episode series. Well, after viewing all of it again, actually paying attention to the majority of the plot this time... I still hate it. The group of people who wrote the scripts for this show should have their faces punched in, because Wing is littered with characters with stupid or no personalities with bad development, awful plot devices that have crappy conclusions, and a plot that felt like it didn't know where the hell it wanted to go (I swear the show was on its 364th organization or fraction threatening to start a war by episode 45). And I hated how they danced around casualties of war. Most of the deaths in the show felt emotionless and the introduction of the pilotless Mobile Dolls was a really lame way to dance around death in war. However, the argument of getting people to pilot Mobile Suits again was just as dumb. When they finally had the opportunity to do something emotional by having Quatre blow up a colony with Gundam Zero, they screwed that up badly. Not one person in that episode or the following episodes seemed to give two shits about it being destroyed, and it didn't help that they thought it wasn't necesscary to animate in any civilians in the parts where you see the cities on the inside being blown away...
Don't even get me started on Une's split personality that came completely out of left field and Trowa's amnesia that was there to waste time.
But hey, the show's got Gundams and "pretty boys"! Really, who gives a damn about how the show turns out when you can sell model kits and try to cater to the female demographic? Ugh, I think I may need to rewatch G Gundam to wash the bad taste out of my mouth.
Seriously, how can you not love this corny shit?

It starts off a little cliche, but it gets really good as it heads into the second season. It's one of the best "alternate universes" of that series, next to G Gundam of course. |

dementedhut - January 18, 2010 (02:48 PM) Thank God you didn't say Seed. Yeah, I've watched 00, and while I had certain issues with it, like Marina being the most useless character in the entire show during the second half, it was definitely much better than Wing. |

That's probably mainly due to my friend introducing it as the first Gundam I've ever watched, not to mention one of the first anime I've ever watched. Also, we purchased models of the Gundams at Toys R Us. I think G Gundam is a complete pile of crap. I would rather let a horse shit all over my face and step on me than have to watch it. |
