BioShock
I... doubt anyone knew it was up since all of leroux's reviews knocked it off the front page. So, yeah, I actually wrote a new review.

Genj - September 12, 2007 (04:46 PM) I saw it earlier when it was just posted. It was an interested read since it wasn't the usual BioShock masturbation every other Internet |

dementedhut - September 12, 2007 (04:52 PM) I can understand people praising the game for its concept and look, but if anyone worships its gameplay and calls it revolutionary, then they need to play more fps. |

joseph_valencia - September 12, 2007 (06:58 PM) I haven't seen anyone labelling BioShock revolutionary. Most of the praise has been directed to its art direction and game design. Also, are concept and gameplay mutually exclusive? |

dementedhut - September 12, 2007 (10:29 PM) I was exaggerating when using revoltionary. I was just basically saying that if anyone thinks the gameplay is different than anything that came out before, then they haven't played enough fps. Anyway, I'll probably look stupid in the process, but, I'm kinda lost with what you actually mean by that. Are you literally asking if the concept of the game and the gameplay are seperate from each other? |

joseph_valencia - September 13, 2007 (12:09 AM) Yes, although in retrospect I probably could have posed the question a little better.. You said you could understand people praising the game for its concept. But then, in the same sentence, you also said that people who worship the gameplay haven't played enough FPSes, implying that it is pretty pedestrian. From my standpoint, gameplay is derived from a game's concept, so I was wondering why you were making a distinction between the two. |

dementedhut - September 13, 2007 (08:05 AM) I could have replied last night... but I was really tired. Anyway, what I was getting at is that the concept, the premise of the game taking place in a very art deco underwater city during the late 1950s (I think...), is unique for a video game. And what I was trying to say was that, some people might be so engrossed with its settings and environments, as well as the plot that keeps you guessing, that they'll blindly throw in the gameplay aspect into that section. That's what I was simply trying to say. Now, the gameplay itself isn't entirely original for a fps, which I explained in the review having being comparable to games released in recent years. Ultimately, the thing that has it over the other games are its random encounters. There's other stuff like hacking into bots, safes, and machines, but I didn't really see that as a standout feature. Now you know. And knowing is half the battle. |
