Title: Fuuuu, Halloween Game Review Troubles
Posted: October 26, 2012 (05:53 PM)
So I have one "horror"-themed game left to review that I'll be submitting the last day of October, but I keep running into problems. The game I originally intended to do was Majora's Mask, since, you know, the theme of the moon crashing and the various masks worn. But I didn't want to rush through the game for the sake of a review, so I went for something else.
That's when I decided on PS1's Reloaded, sequel to Loaded. I did this purely on the notion of the crazy character designs and ultra violence, plus I wanted to review the sequel. However, I ran into two problems, the first being that the game really sucks, and that's an amazing accomplishment considering the first game wasn't hot in the first place. The second issue came as I made it halfway through Reloaded: my PlayStation controller's d-pad crapped out. Keep in mind, this game was published before Sony released the analog controller.
So now I'm in this situation of having to search for a last minute replacement, and I have one particular game in mind... but I won't name it. If that somehow goes to crap, too, I guess it's off to Xbox Live Arcade games. Hopefully there's a suitable one I can find.

Someone actually said this. My head is numb.

"Interestingly, writing this review gave me the craving to review Sonic the Hedgehog 2." - Me
I had this quote in the back of my head for a while, and I always thought it was something I wrote at the end of 2011... I checked, and I actually wrote it in 2010. Wow.
Oh, guess what game I'm reviewing next. >_>
Title: So my first three 2012 games happened to be Capcom titles

I'm greatly disturbed by this.
Title: Three months into the year, I finally bought a 2012 game.

I thought it'd take longer, honestly.
Title: Conclusion: Everyone's a Sonic fan.
Posted: March 03, 2012 (10:39 PM)
After playing various Sonic games for the past two decades and listening to various opinions on Sonic, whether they're from followers or just gamers, I've come to the conclusion that everyone is a Sonic fan. Whenever a new Sonic game comes out, there's always a "passionate" debate or conversation, 99% of the time when I'm not looking for one, about what each gamer's favorite Sonic game is.
Surprisingly, it's actually really different from one another. And they will stand by that game, defending it from disagreers, and dismissing the rest of the games in the series as crap, stating the series is dead and will never return to its former glory (i.e. their favorite Sonic game). This has been going on for nearly two decades, and I really doubt it's going to stop as long as more Sonic games are released.
Of course, this could apply to any other game franchise, but the Sonic fanbase seems disturbingly "faithful" in their beliefs. Downright creepy. I wish not to provide examples in order to keep my sanity.

...I wonder if it's worth it to buy a used XBOX just for this game (Onechanbara) and DOAX.

It's from the early 1980s... people were more easily amused and impressed back then.
Title: So I wasn't aware some DJ Hero turntables were defective
Posted: November 28, 2011 (10:34 PM)
Guess what I got today! :|
I've wanted to play both games for a long damn time, but I just couldn't stomach the original price range for both the game and turntable controller. However, I finally decided to get one when I saw the DJ Hero 2 bundle going for under $30 new, plus DJ Hero 1 standalone disc for $15 new. So I got everything for about the price of a new game, which I thought was an awesome deal.
Then I tried playing with the turntable, and every single button was working fine.... except for the crossfader. The thing, by default, would shift to the right. At first, I thought I goofed up by fiddling with the controller as I was turning on the system, but after several attempts and methods, it was actually just the controller being crapped out before use.
This meant I could only play the game on the easy difficulty, since it excluded the crossfader segments. It's not bad, really, but I KNOW I'm missing out on the game's full potential by not playing on higher difficulties. I'd return it, but in a fit of semi-rage, I kinda broke off a piece from the controller. So much for that. >_<
Title: Because when I think of awesome Black Friday deals...

I dream about that sweet Sailing Simulator deal. Hell yeah!
Title: Having the same issue with my Otomedius review as I did with my Deathsmiles one...
Posted: November 13, 2011 (01:46 PM)
I know what I wanna write, but I'm just so on and off when actually typing it. I think I'm officially burnt out on making shoot-em-up reviews for the year. XD
Must finish review.... must... not be tempted to... play.... Metal Gear Solid HD Collection! Gwah!
Update 1: First paragraph done. Time to eat some delivered pizza.
Update 2 (Nov. 13 - 8:33pm est): Still only one paragraph.
Update 3 (Nov. 14 - 12:44am est): Three paragraphs. >_>
Update 4 (Nov. 15 - 7:11pm est): Woke up from a nap since I only slept 2 hours this morning before going to work. Still only three paragraphs.
Update 5 (Nov. 17 - 2:59pm est): Five paragraphs done. After getting off work, I'm gonna finish this sucker and hopefully get it up this week.
Update 6 (Nov. 18 - 5:08am est): Think I'm done, but I'll probably read through the thing a few times before submission to be sure.
Title: Otomedius Excellent has grown on me a bit...
Posted: November 09, 2011 (01:39 AM)
I didn't want to judge the game based on that one completed experience, so I forced myself to play it a few more times. It's actually not a bad shoot-em-up. And after playing the game for 2 days, I just realized the Y button also works as a charged attack... Helped quite a bit in some situations. >_>
I still think the characters' hit boxes stink.
Title: Otomedius Excellent has one of the worst hit boxes I've seen in a recent shoot-em-up...

Konami, how do you fuck up something that hasn't been a huge issue in various Gradius games and spin-offs for the past 26 years?
Title: You've experienced too many Sonic games when...

You shit bricks hearing a Super Sonic Racing remix playing as you race against Knuckles in Green Hill.
Mah gawd, Sonic Generations.

I've reread that review many times, and yet I've never noticed that mistake until after I submitted it. x_X
Title: Dontcha hate when...

You wanna write a review, know EXACTLY what you wanna write, what every paragraph is going to be about... yet you just don't want to actually write/type it out?
I'm having one of those weeks.
I have the first paragraph down, but that was written 4 days ago. I could've had this done by now and moved on to something else. Now I have Daytona USA distracting me, too. XP
Title: Guardian Heroes & Radiant Silvergun: The urge to play still there?
Posted: October 12, 2011 (09:34 PM)
So I've known Radiant Silvergun has been available on Live Arcade for a few weeks now, and Guardian Heroes just came out this Wednesday, yet I'm not exactly rushing, nor excited to play either games. I've played and enjoyed the Saturn version of GH many times in the past, and the prospect of playing this with other people online should sound awesome, but I don't seem motivated to download the title. Same goes for RS, which has been regarded by many as one of the best shooters ever.
Am I the only one feeling this way? Maybe all the hype for the games, especially for RS, has desensitized me. Anyone else here download either title? Don't get me wrong, I still think it's great that new generations get to play these titles without having to pay an arm and a leg for a console and working disc on ebay. I'm just curious for thoughts.
Title: Ace Combat: Assault Horizon First Impression:

Screw playing and reviewing Drill Dozer, I haven't had this much fun with an Ace Combat game since 5!
Title: Just finished viewing X-Men: First Class..... Lotsa Spoiler Observations
Posted: October 01, 2011 (01:46 AM)
Maybe I'm blind, but in a movie with a theme of diversity... I only saw one black guy. And he's the first mutant to die, too. You didn't even get to see his full death, since it cuts away when he was about to explode. I thought, "Well, okay, this is a PG-13 movie", until I remembered people were being teleported into the sky and dropped to their deaths a few minutes earlier. And later, you see the second mutant death, where Magneto plows a coin through Kevin Bacon's head, the entire segment, up close, in slow motion.
That last paragraph sounded like it was making a point, but I just wanted an excuse to write down moments from the movie. Like how Hugh Jackman had a hilarious cameo, or how really hot Rose Byrne was and how I almost freaked out when I thought Magneto was about to kill her at the end. The ending credits sequence had cool visual effects going on.
I also thought it was hilarious how hammy the villains were in the movie. Like when Kevin Bacon was chilling in the luxury section of his FUCKING SUBMARINE, complete with couch, drinks, and tv. And it was hard taking Kevin Bacon seriously whenever he wore the "Magneto helmet". Then again, it didn't look like he took himself serious with it, so I guess the hammy aspect was intentional.
The whole movie, really, felt like if James Bond was replaced by a bunch of freaks to stop a stereotypical rich bastard villain.
In closing, this is a shitty, disjointed summary of the movie, but sometimes you need to say stuff and there's no place to say it at 3 in the morning.
Title: So I bought Bit.Trip Complete
Posted: September 27, 2011 (03:58 PM)
I've heard some things from sources and videos about certain games in the Bit.Trip series, but I never got around to trying one of the games on WiiWare. Honestly, it was a hard sell to download one of the games by itself to me, at least without some kind of playable demo, so when a complete collection was released last week, I took a shot with it.
Some of the games are neat to play, like Runner, which is a platform game that forces itself forward with your running avatar. It's pretty basic, but hard to master when you're trying to collect all the gold in each stage. Memorizing some of the longer stages is difficult, too.
Beat is another cool one, a pong-style game where you need to deflect all incoming pixels coming at you. Starts out simplistic, as well, but the pixels start coming in abstract ways. The one that always throws me off are the pixels that immediately bounce back at your paddle, and keeps doing so until it reaches a border. Another neat thing about it is how, if you suck too much, the game gives you one last attempt to in some kind of silent, black/white, purgatory atmosphere. Suck more here, and the game ends. I like the controls for this game, too, where you have to tilt the Wiimote forward and back to move the paddle. It's odd at first, but you get the hang of it.
Some of the other games felt like lame, flash gimmicks, though. Void is one such example, a game where you're a black pixel, and you need to collect materializing black pixels for points. The more you collect, the bigger your pixel gets, which you can "reset" for points. There are also white pixels you must avoid while you collect. It's an alright game, but it's really something I can't justify buying on its own.
Void is another, where your character is stuck on this specific line path, and you need to avoid debris along the way. Yeah...
As a package, I like it, but I'm really glad I didn't get some of the games seperately. Anyone else play any of the Bit.Trip games? Opinions?

Title: Damn you, Mail Mannnnnnnnnnnnn!!
Posted: July 27, 2011 (08:25 PM)
So I come home from work, see the mail man walking around, and he sees me. I grab the mail, put it inside without looking, and head back outside to take something off my car. The mail man sees me again as he walks inside his truck, which happens to be parked across from my car. He drives away. I go inside to check the mail and notice one of them was a pink slip saying I didn't receive a package because I wasn't there to sign it.
Now I either have to drive to the post office to pick it up or have it redelivered. Thanks, mail man, you lazy bastard. :D

Title: Things Blowing my Mind - Part 2
Posted: June 08, 2011 (08:02 PM)
So today I was looking through the System 16 site for some research on what game ran on what hardware and such.... and I got sidetracked. Ended up looking at hardware from other companies and seeing what games ran on them.
The following discoveries blew my mind:
-Namco made a Counter Strike arcade game.
-Konami released a fucking Lethal Enforcers 3.
-There's a Sega game called Giant Tetris involving the use of GINORMOUS joysticks. That seems to be the whole gimmick.
-Taito came out with a new Elevator Action title in 2009. It's a light gun game. -__-
-They also released a new Darius called Dariusburst. It's widescreen like the old games and features more fish.
-WOW Entertainment made a game where you walk your dog. The arcade cabinet consists of the typical large screen and a treadmill.
There was more, but those stuck out the most for me.
Title: Now hold on a minute...
Posted: June 06, 2011 (01:31 PM)
There was a Full Auto 2? o___o
Sadly, it's this type of stuff that seems to blow my mind.
Edit: Also, I finally completed L.A. Noire yesterday. The game sucks so much.
Title: Almost bought a PSP just for Peace Walker
Posted: June 02, 2011 (07:16 PM)
So much for that. :D Though, I'm not thrilled about owning the inferior version of MGS3 if they stick with using the original camera angle.
Edit: Read comments section for fanboy lawls.
Title: Latest Review

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond
Meant to have videos ready alongside the review, but had some annoying audio issues again, so I have to record new ones. Dunno if I'm gonna do it, though. Too much hassle redoing them... especially since I'm probably gonna waste most of my remaining day off just doing that.
