overdrive Welcome to my blog. Here, you may read all of my reviews. That will take a good deal of time, as I have penned quite a large number of them. I advise you to start now. And don't forget, constantly offer me praise concerning how great I am at doing what I do!

Title: A mini-review that could wind up a....maxi?

Tonight, for the first time in over eight years, I played Summoner... Perhaps I was in a particularly self-hating frame of mind.

You start out woodenly moving through a burning village, chopping down weak foes until it all mercifully ends. No, wait! It's not merciful...now you're in the overworld where you have to find some castle-town base of operations. And, for your solo character, any random encounter monster is best avoided unless you're patient enough to save after every single fight.

When you get to said castle-town, prepare to waste a gazillion hours. This is a massive, multi-sector place containing a ton of mini-quests waiting to be found. The first time (and, quite frankly, any other time) you visit, you'll likely be dialing the suicide hotline long before you get the cutscene that takes you into the sewers for your first real plot-action mission. Unless your memory is so photographic that you instantly can recall where Bhaordhs the Hwieornwsld happens to be stationed at whenever you're told to find its ass!

That game gave me a sore neck. That perpetual downward tilt of the camera kept making me subconsciously try to look up into the screen to see further ahead. I hated the narrow view. It made going anywhere incredibly tedious.

What an awful game that was. People defended it for being the first RPG for the PS2. So why is it so much worse than most PS1 RPGs? =/

I have never (thankfully, it seems) heard of it.

The PS1 days were slim for me, in terms of gaming. I only owned a few games for the PS1, including Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil II, and, uh, Gex: Enter the Gecko. That was pretty much it.

I was a bigger N64 fan, really. I had tons of games for that system. I still somewhat regret getting rid of it. Mostly because I gave up Pilotwings, which took me GODDAMN FOREVER to get all the gold medals on. Yeah. I did em all. I'm fucking nuts. Beautiful game. Totally unplayable by today's standards.

It was also the only time in my gaming history that I got seriously into PC games. I just happened to have access to a decent PC at the time, and used it to play such classics as Diablo, Starcraft, Dungeon Keeper, Blade Runner, Half Life, Deus Ex, Alien versus Predator, and Fallout 2. I never could get Baldur's Gate II to run effectively on it and I think the last game that I managed to get it to run was The Longest Journey.

Then I put away gaming for a long time until I was finally enticed enough by Metal Gear Solid II to buy a PS2.

And once you've bought a PS2, there's really no going back to "not gaming."

Wow, that was kind've nostalgic for me.
