A question for Mass Effect players
April 01, 2016

Right now on my 360, I'm going through Diablo 3. After I finish the Reaper of Souls chapter and mess around with Adventure Mode until I've gotten bored with it, I'm thinking about moving on to at least starting the Mass Effect Trilogy. Perhaps doing all three back-to-back-to-back, perhaps not.

Anyway, I have the collection with all three packaged in one container and from what I gather, this does not include DLC.

So my question to people here who've spent time with the series (Suskie, Zipp in particular have talked a lot about these games) is what DLC is most worth buying and what isn't worth it? Doesn't have to be any in-depth analysis, just a brief opinion on if each one is fun, adds to the story, etc. or if it feels like filler created just to pad play time. Since I'd drop money on the former, but not really on the latter.

Thanks in advance, any and all!

I wouldn't bother with the first game's DLC. The second game had some really good additional story segments, but it's been a long time and I can't remember which ones were good or not.

Mass Effect 1: Skip the DLC altogether.

Mass Effect 2: Tons of DLC, most of it good, though ME2 goes on a lot of tangents as-is so piling on more squadmates and side missions isn't essential. The one that you absolutely must play is Lair of the Shadow Broker. Overlord is excellent too. Skip Arrival; it provides some setup for ME3 but it's really sloppily handled.

Mass Effect 3: From Ashes is so important to the canon that there was actually a huge controversy at the time over this being sold separately. Leviathan also has some really critical lore. Citadel is a fun little victory lap for the series; play it if you want to spend more time with the characters.

Cool, thanks. That is the sort of info I was looking for! I knew there were a couple that were pretty much essential and a couple that were very easy to ignore, but wasn't sure which ones fit into which category.

Does the Trilogy come with the first game's DLC on Xbox? I played it on PS3 and it came with it. But I actually completely missed it in the game and couldn't go back to it once I finished the game.

I played all of the story DLC for 2 and 3 and I honestly feel like it's all pretty much worth it. Especially Overlord and Citadel.

I don't think so on the 360. Or at least very little of it. I can't remember the specifics, but I did look up the difference between 360/PS3/PC online once and it seems that the 360 got the fewest additions. Looking again, it looks like the 360 version comes with Cerberus Network and Mass Effect 3 Online Pass. And since CN seems to be something involving 2, that means nothing for 1 is added into my version.
