Inspired by the comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, and developed by Digital Extremes, The Darkness II tells the story of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and brutal force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness. It looks a lot like two tentacles with teeth, in case you wondered.

The Darkness II is a first-person shooter, one that combines its dark narrative with even darker and more imaginative violence. That sounds like lip service, I know, but have you seen the trailer? I have, and I think I might be scarred for life.

One thing that sets the game apart from its genre peers is the ability to quad-wield, which basically means you can slash, grab and throw objects and enemies with your powerful tentacles while also dual-wielding more conventional weapons that do boring things like shoot bullets.

Another twist is the Vendettas campaign, a cooperative mode that features its own narrative and takes place parallel to the single-player mode. Up to four friends can play together as one of four playable characters, each armed with a unique Darkness weapon.

The Darkness II is appropriately rated M by the ESRB, indicating that it should only be played by immature audiences (and by those who can grow stylish neckbeards). You can check out the playable demo that is available throughout most of the known world, or you can find additional details at the official web site: embracethedarkness.com.
