The arcade classic Choplifter, which also saw release on home formats way back in the 80s, has made its latest and perhaps its most triumphant return to consoles as of today, with the release of Choplifter HD for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The downloadable title is available by way of the usual distribution channels, and so begins a new chapter.

Developed by InXile Entertainment, the updated game features more than 30 missions that bring new variety to the old formula. Besides rescuing POWs, you'll be charged with dropping off saboteurs so they can blow up buildings, saving survivors from viral outbreaks and so forth. Not only that, but there will be appearances by zombies(!), Duke Nukem(!!) and even Super Meat Boy(!!!).

"We really focused on returning to our old school gaming roots with Choplifter HD," said Brian Fargo, CEO of InXile Entertainment. "We made sure to have plenty of variety in missions, choppers and enemies, while lacing in those special moments that we love here at InXile. Choplifter HD is the kind of game that WE want to play! We are very proud of the experience we created and I can't wait for gamers to get their hands on it!"

InXile Entertainment partnered with Konami to publish the Xbox 360 version, while other versions will be self-published. Choplifter HD is rated T for Teen and carries an MSRP of $14.99 on PlayStation Network and Steam, or you can pick it up for 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.
