Atlus bringing Gungnir to the US

Gungnir, a strategy RPG from developer Sting, is making its way to US audiences next summer. More specifically, Atlus will be bringing it to North America June 12th of the coming year.

The game is part of the Dept. Heaven franchise, a series which includes Riviera and Yggdra Union. The game takes place in a world ravaged by war as rebels rescue a mysterious noblewoman and a spear that has fallen from the sky.

Atlus says that players will find the gameplay just as original as this story of rebels fighting against tyranny, detailing a few of the combat's mechanics in the announcement. There is a wait time associated with every action, and players can choose between a trade-off of speed versus power when planning their moves.

Additionally, Gungnir offers tactical points to speed things up a bit. Based on what's been revealed about the combat, it doesn't seem to offer an impressive amount of strategic options, letting players decide whether to err on the side of risk or reward.

Gungnir is for the PSP. If it plays as good as it sounds, it will be a welcome addition to the PSP's library, even as the Vita replaces its predecessor. Atlus have also hinted at another soon-to-be announced localization, which many expect to be a Growlanser game.
