Gears of War 3's RAAM's Shadow DLC available today
Gears of War 3's second major downloadable content pack, "RAAM's Shadow," rammed its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace today and is available for download for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15) to those who don't have a Gears of War 3 season pass.
Gears of War 3's second major downloadable content pack, "RAAM's Shadow," rammed its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace today and is available for download for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15) to those who don't have a Gears of War 3 season pass.
"RAAM's Shadow" puts players on the COG's Zeta team, a unit made up of soliders who major Gears heads might recognize: Michael Barrick, Lt. Minh Young Kim and Tai Kaliso. Rounding out the Zeta team is a female newcomer, Alicia Valera. The Zeta team is tasked with evacuating Ilima City and protecting its citizens from an incoming Locust Kryll storm in an adventure Epic Games says will add about three hours of gameplay to the Gears 3 experience. Of course, players will be able to tackle this challenge solo or cooperatively with up to four buddies.
Oh, and, yes, the infamous baddy from the original Gears of War, General RAAM, will be your main adversary in this adventure. (Maybe that's why it's called "RAAM's Shadow!") But here's the rub: Zeta team's adventure isn't the only one in "RAAM's Shadow." Players will also assume the role of RAAM as he and his Locust troops invade a human stronghold.
And if the Gears campaign isn't your thing, there's still some more stuff for the game's Horde Mode and competitive multiplayer mode, like the Chocolate Weapon set (er, what?) and six new multiplayer skins, including RAAM himself, a Theron Elite Commando and the soldiers from Zeta.
It sounds like a pretty nice expansion, if you ask me. Going through a story session from the perspective of the Locust army is definitely a Gears of War first, and it sounds like an experience that could justify the DLC's asking price.
Just remember: If you plan on purchasing this DLC, as well as any future Gears of War 3 content packs, you should probably consider just buying the game's season pass for 2,400 Microsoft points, as it'll save you some cash in the long run.
