Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has no PC version in its future

PC gamers, I hope you're not planning to skip the free-to-play Ghost Recon Online and hold out for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. It doesn't look like a PC version of next year's shooter is in Ubisoft's cards, according to a PC Gamer report.
“We’re adapting the offer to the PC market. I don’t like to compare PC and Xbox boxed products because they have a model on that platform that is clearly meant to be €60’s worth of super-Hollywood content," said Sébastien Arnoult, a producer for Ghost Recon Online, to PC Gamer. "On PC, we’re adapting our model to the demand.”
So what is it he feels PC gamers are demanding? An easy-to-download, DRM-free experience, he says -- which is exactly what Ghost Recon Online will offer (at no initial cost). But Future Soldier has a traditional payment model, and therefore, we'll only see it on consoles.
“When we started Ghost Recon Online we were thinking about Ghost Recon: Future Solider -- having something ported in the classical way without any deep development, because we know that 95 percent of our consumers will pirate the game," said Arnoult.
"So we said, okay, we have to change our mind. We have to adapt; we have to embrace this instead of pushing it away. That’s the main reflection behind Ghost Recon Online and the choice we’ve made to go in this direction.”
This bit of news -- and the general sentiment from Arnoult -- doesn't sound good for PC gamers, especially those who love their mouse and keyboard setup for shooters. Hopefully, the free-to-play Ghost Recon Online works well enough to satisfy Ghost Recon's PC fans. The game is currently in closed beta.
Future Soldier is scheduled for release on March 6, 2012.
