Mastiff today announced the official release date for Heavy Fire: Red Shadow, its upcoming turret shooter that is being prepped for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is due to arrive on October 16, 2018, and you can pre-order it soon.

The Heavy Fire series has been around for some time now, with installments appearing on numerous platforms over the years. It has never really been a mainstream success, though, which perhaps explains why this time around, the game appears to be digital-only except on PlayStation 4. If you're so inclined, you can purchase a physical edition of that particular version at Walmart that is expected to be available the same day the game arrives on digital storefronts.

In Heavy Fire: Red Shadow, players jump into a not-so-distant and thus far fictional future where the United States and North Korea aren't getting along all that well... to the point where the latter has attacked Guam with a missile barrage. Now, a fellow named Sgt. Will must defend the area from waves of hostile soldiers, shooting them as they come from every angle and protecting US interests in the region. Where there's a Will, there's a way!

The Heavy Fire: Red Shadow campaign features a stunning eight stages, which is literally twice as many as you may recall playing through in the arcade version of Donkey Kong. Additionally, there is an Endless Mode, in case you don't want the fun to ever end.

Gameplay features include the option to call in defensive support in the form of supply drops and elite infantry troops, fighter aircraft, attack helicopters and other things today's press release didn't dare spoil. You'll have to play yourself if you want to see what they are. Also, there are field promotions that allow you to upgrade your machine gun, rocket launcher, health and support skills. RPG-lite elements like that are always appreciated.

Heavy Fire: Red Shadow is designed to take advantage of various neat resources on its respective platforms. On Xbox One, there is Mixer support. On PC, there is RAZER CHROMA support. And on PlayStation 4, included for free with the aforementioned physical edition (or if you pre-order through the PlayStation Store), there is PS VR support. From what I can tell, a separate edition will also be offered for around $10 for slackers who don't leap on the sensational promotional deal outlined above ahead of time.

Now that you know it's coming, don't let yourself miss out on the thrills and spills provided in Heavy Fire: Red Shadow. It will be available not quite three weeks from now, for all--or at least most of--your turret gunning needs!
