InXile Entertainment has announced the release date for its eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch port of Wasteland 2: Director's Cut. The game will arrive on September 13, just in time to distract students from their homework during those pivotal first few weeks of school.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is an enhanced version of the Kickstarter-backed game, which arrived on PC in 2014. Eventually, the updated version was made available as a free download to Steam users, and that updated edition is the one that has since made its way to a variety of platforms, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In Wasteland 2, players work to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The original Wasteland is billed as the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG, and was a precursor to Fallout. Depending on what Bethesda's plans are for that other franchise, this may be as close to Fallout as some dedicated Nintendo fans ever get.

"When I first showed a screenshot of Wasteland 2 running on the Nintendo Switch, it erupted into one of the largest social media reactions I have ever seen," said Brian Fargo, the game's creator, who clearly never saw or has simply forgotten that one time Kim Kardashian posed with a garbage bag. "RPG fans are looking for new ways to experience old favorites, and Nintendo fans are looking for big, meaningful RPG experiences they can play anywhere they go. The game received a huge reaction last week at gamescom, and it feels great to be this close to getting the game in fans' hands."

If you haven't played Wasteland 2 yet in one of its forms, or if you have but it has been a while, the Nintendo Switch version looks like a great way to dip your toes in those possibly poisoned waters. Make sure to check out the trailer embedded above if you'd like to learn more about the game.
