Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment today confirmed with a video a rumor that started circulating yesterday evening: Diablo is finally coming to Nintendo hardware, in the form of Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch. The title is due later this calendar year.

The video begins with a camera shot of Reggie Fils-Aimee sitting at his desk, as he has in other videos from Nintendo (whether it's his actual desk or just a cute location for videos is hard to say). The lights flicker a bit and he wonders what is happening, but then he opens a conference window with Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment.

Mike has sent Reggie a Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo CEO doesn't sound excited because he already has a bunch of them. But Mike insists there's something special about this one, and so there is: it is running Diablo III: Eternal Collection.

You can watch the trailer yourself to see where the video goes from there, and to get a look at the game running on the hardware. There's even a welcome appearance from some models who pretend to be playing the game and having fun.

But here's the thing: they probably are having at least a bit of fun. Or at least, people who buy the game and play it probably will. Diablo III: Eternal Collection includes the popular base game and its expansions, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer.

I've been interested in finally trying Diablo III for some time now, as an entry point into the series, and now it looks like my procrastination has paid off in a big way. I'll be able to buy the game later this year and play through at least part of it with friends, probably. If I can find some willing souls. But that's a problem for another day. Today, I'm just busy feeling pleased that an important action-RPG is coming to Nintendo Switch, a platform that seems ideal for the sort of experience it reportedly provides (Rob sure liked it, even going through the campaign solo). Are you pleased too?
