Project Eternity Shatters Kickstarter Target
Just take our money, Obsidian!
Some Kickstarter campaigns were always doomed to fail; screen-printed ‘I Love Leisure Suit Larry’ t-shirts, perhaps, or a Duke Nukem Forever sequel. Then there are others, like the one posted by Obsidian, developers of Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout: New Vegas, KOTOR 2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Its attempt was to raise $1.1m to fund a brand new isometric RPG. Launched this past Friday, the new campaign saw gamers frantically shoving banknotes into their keyboards as fast as they possibly could.
So it is that Project Eternity has passed its initial target, and still it shows no sign of slowing down. Stretch goals go all the way up to $2.4m and promising new playable races, territories, and gameplay features.
With a pitch like this one, it’s a safe bet Obsidian will soon be sleeping on piles of our cash: “Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.”
Obsidian has yet to offer comment on how much of the money will be donated to families of RPG fans that have died of excitement.
