Metal Gear Solid 4 getting trophy support here in 2012
The trophy patch that sneaks up on you and makes you go "!"
When trophy support was added to the PS3 in 2008, publishers were given the option to patch trophy support into games that were released before support went live. Many people assumed that the then recently released Metal Gear Solid 4, the system's first big system seller, would be among those updated to support the new feature. They were wrong.
Now, four years later, it's finally happening.
MGS director Hideo Kojima announced in an interview with Famitsu that the upcoming "PlayStation The Best" budget rerelease of the game in Japan will support trophies, and the non-budget version will receive a patch to enable the functionality.
The "Best" version of the game is releasing in August, and though the patch doesn't have a release date, it's probably safe to assume that it will be released around the same time, and hopefully not just in Japan. We don't know what any of the trophies actually are, but if they're as good as the ones in the HD Collection, they'll make the game worth a replay.
