Halo 4 multiplayer requires 8GB flash drive or Xbox 360 hard drive
Sparkly Spartan warfare requires a bit of hard disk space, y'know?
If you're hoping to play the feces out of Halo 4 this fall, we hope your current Xbox hardware isn't of the 4GB hard drive variety. Microsoft confirmed on Xbox.com that -- at minimum -- an 8GB flash drive would be required to play Halo 4's Xbox Live-enabled multiplayer components. Optimally? An Xbox 360 hard drive is suggested.
That means if you have an Xbox 360 Arcade, or the older Core console, you need to be a hard drive if you want to experience Spartan warfare at its best. You can find one -- or a flash drive -- at any major game or electronics retailer. SanDisk currently offers a couple of Xbox 360-branded flash drives of the 8GB and 16GB variety at $40 and $60, respectively, though, trust me, you can find some for a lot cheaper. As for a hard drive, Microsoft's media one goes for $130 and includes Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. Beware, though: That's for the Xbox 360 S console, not the older, larger ones.
Microsoft offered a statement to Joystiq about the news, in which they clarified what these gigabytes of space are needed for.
"Halo 4 will offer an optimal experience if played using a hard drive, but will deliver a visually impressive and immersive gameplay experience whether you use a hard drive or a flash storage device," said the company. "The multiplayer modes the storage requirement applies to encompass all Xbox Live-enabled modes."
