New Dead Space and Need for Speed coming before April 2013

Dead Space image

EA made some pretty casual announcements during a financial call today. Specifically, they announced that new Dead Space and Need for Speed games were in the works.

They didn't announce any specific details beyond a release deadline of March 31st, 2013, without even mentioning if Dead Space was a numbered sequel, or which subseries of Need for Speed the new entry in that series belonged to.

Last month, South African retailer BT Games started taking pre-orders for Dead Space 3 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2, which may or may not narrow things down.

We already knew about Dead Space. They had talked about it being on an ice planet. Kind of intriguing. Supposedly they are aiming to go more survival horror, which I think is a smart decision. But whether they are telling the truth... I mean, Resident Evil says that before every game.

Being a big fan of the original Dead Space as well as the second one (though a bit less so), I'm definitely going to be picking this up. Hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes in DS2.

Ultimately I enjoyed Dead Space 2, but it felt like 'Dead Space with more combat,' which I suppose isn't too bad of a thing. It ended up being a 'beat it and never touch it again'-type game though. The whole "ice planet" concept has potential unless it ends up taking place mostly in a poorly lit industrial complex with "outdoor ice environments" in lieu of "outdoor space environments."
