According to the Electronic Arts representative, "...the IGN story is wrong - EA has not asked for an exclusive and the NBA has not rejected an EA offer for an exclusive."
It's hard to imagine where IGN would have gotten that idea if the story is indeed wrong. Similarly, it's hard to imagine Electronic Arts lying about such a thing when the NBA could easily chime in and say "Oh yes you did!"
