NIS America announced today that it will be releasing a puzzle game called Puchi Puchi Virus on the Nintendo DS in February of 2008. The title marks the publisher's first release on the system, as well as the first time it has deviated from its normal collection of RPG and Strategy offerings to publish more casual fare.
The announcement of the title represents a change in focus for the company, though not a complete one.
"Our core audience will remain the same," says NIS America's president, Haru Akenaga, "but we will also appeal to the information rich yet time poor casual gamers with unique and distinctive titles."
Puchi Puchi Virus, which was developed by Jaleco, differs from the "blocks fall from the sky" set of puzzle games that seems to dominate the genre. Players instead link viruses together in triangles to erase them from the screen, with each virus becoming more difficult to remove the longer it remains in play.
We'll have more information on Puchi Puchi Virus and other games from NIS America in the months ahead, just as soon as we hear of it ourselves.
