Games based on movies rarely hit the mark. Developers are rushed to meet strict movie release deadlines, and on top of that it's difficult to translate a two-hour movie into a longer interactive adventure. By basing Republic Commando on the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Lucas Arts had the freedom of adhering to no movie in particular, and created an experience that's enjoyable regardless of your knowledge of the films. Anyone that's been playing games for a while will tell you that games simply aren't as difficult as they used to be. Games were probably more difficult in the past because they lacked the longevity and breadth of content that we're accustomed to in this day and age. But something has always been true about these hard (but fair) games: Finally completing them is just oh so satisfying. Ubisoft proved that it was serious about bringing the Prince of Persia series back in full force when it released The Sands of Time in 2003. The game had great level design, solid combat mechanics, and best of all a genuine storybook feel that made it something really special. Jak II is the product of a long line of cartoony platformers produced by Naughty Dog. Unlike the first game in the series, Jak II tweaks the formula by implementing GTA-esque design. Playing as both Jak and his sidekick Daxter, you'll have an entire city to explore filled with bustling crowds, anxious police officers, and a fair share of futuristic hover cars to take advantage of.
