Title: Final Fantasy vs. Dragon Quest: The Immortal Debate.
Posted: December 22, 2005 (06:26 AM)
For years, Japanese and American nerds have been debating over which RPG series is the best: Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest? To settle this argument once and for all, I am going to objectively evaluate the titles of each series and formulate a conclusion from the data. Here we go:

Final Fantasy:
1- Crap; GBA remake was all right.
2- Crap.
3- Good.
4- Crap.
5- Good.
6- Timeless classic.
7- Not bad.
8- Crap.
9- Good.
10- Crap.
11- Crap.
12- Looks promising.

Dragon Quest:
1- Crap; SNES remake was all right.
2- Crap.
3- Good.
4- Timeless classic.
5- Crap.
6- Not bad.
7- Crap.
8- Looks promising.

Let us evaluate the score:

FF - 4 good titles, 1 not so bad one, a decent remake of the original, and an upcoming game that looks promising.

DQ - 2 good titles, 1 not so bad one, a decent remake of the original, and a game that I haven't played yet that looks promising.

Remember, we have to compensate for the Dairy Queen... er, Dragon Quest series having less installments. If we do so some mathematical rounding, it turns out that...

...

...

...

... both series are equally mediocre!

Title: Joe's Top Ten
Posted: December 09, 2005 (07:29 PM)
'cause everyone else is doing it!

1) Back to the Future

This movie was so awesome that Reagan used its last line in a part of his 1986 State of the Union address. Also, it spawned two badical sequels.

2) Superman

I never get tired of watching the opening credits. Also, the grandaddy of great comic book to movie translations.

3) T2

The standard by which all sequels should be measured. (To hell with The Empire Strikes Back!)

4) 101 Dalmations (Animated; not the shitty live action one)

101 percent better than any Cowboy Bebop or Akira.

5) Gone with the Wind

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

6) The Incredibles

"THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!"

7) Corpse Bride

Contrary to what fanboys may think, it's better than The Nightmare Before Christmas.

8) Raiders of the Lost Ark

You just can't have a good Jones movie without Nazis. (Which is why I'm a bit skeptical about part four.)

9) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

It's a christmas tradition in my family.

10) Gremlins 2

I don't care what the rest of the world says; the sequel is better than the original!!

Title: Some criticism for Nintendo Wifi Connection.
Posted: November 21, 2005 (09:27 AM)
I've had a long enough period of time to be able to effectively test out Mario Kart's online gameplay. I have to admit that Nintendo seriously cut some corners. For example:

A) The lack of options. You can't choose how many players you want to compete to against, how many races you're going to have, what class you're going to compete in, and whether to disable certain pick-ups. Delusional Nintendo fans have been quoted as saying that having less options is better because it makes setting up an online match a simple process. Well, perhaps in the next game Nintendo should do away with the bothersome chore of picking a character and a course. After all, casual gamers don't like having to pick a racer because it's too complicated; right?

B) No online Battle Mode. Maybe seeing the words Battle and Grand Prix on the screen at the same time while logged onto the internet would cause casual gamers' heads to explode? ::shrugs::

C) Some of the cooler tracks in single player mode can't be raced online. Also, certain features like item prepping and the triple pick-ups (x3 banana peels, turtle shells, etc.) are disabled during online racing. I honestly can't see why Nintendo would cut these features, unless they came across unexpected technical problems and were too lazy to resolve them.

Now, I'm not saying that Mario Kart's online racing is terrible; it's still worth getting the game just to play against people around the world. I'm just upset that Nintendo chose to cut corners rather than make their first online game as full featured as possible.

Hopefully, Metroid's WiFi Connection mode will be more thought out and polished.

Got it today; it's fun. If you too own the game and want to race against me, my code is:

274937
488441

I want to race Japanese people, but they only play around 2 in the morning!!

Title: A complaint.

I think it's just plain wrong that a Fleaman can kill you in 1-2 hits in Curse of Darkness's crazy mode. I don't mind getting murdered by an Armor Knight or Executor, but Konami has crossed the line with Fleamen.

Title: This is why the emulation and hacking community rocks...

Remember playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2 and wondering why you couldn't do the same thing in the original Sonic? Now you can!

I <3 emulation.

P.S. Lock-on technology is a lie!!

Title: Curse of Darkness: Beaten.
Posted: November 08, 2005 (09:20 AM)
I honestly didn't expect him to be the final boss.

I still need to fill in that last 4 or so percent of the map. There's also the two different modes that are unlocked after the ending. One is simply the normal game but with a higher difficulty level, and the other is the usual "Belmont" mode. I tried playing as Trevor a little and wasn't too impressed. I'll play his game after I've cleared KUH-RAY-ZY! mode. I also hear there's some Boss Rush minigame too.
