Arsis - United in Regret: Not a whole lot of improvement or advancement from their two previous albums. Then again, they perfected their hard-edged sound early on. Full of lovely semi-melodic tracks such as "Lust Before the Maggots Conquest". - 8/10

Funeral - From These Wounds: Most of Funeral's original lineup is now deceased or despoiling greener pastures. For their latest effort, some female vocalists have been brought in; as a result it sounds a lot more like Evanescence than anything else. Certainly light years away from their early 90s sound. Only a handful of decent material. - 5/10

Watain - Sworn to the Dark: Completely awesome Swedish black metal with actual production values. If you aren't into BM this certainly won't convert you. Tracks like "Satan's Hunger" will melt your face with raw power and necromancy. The few bland ambient tracks are necessary but still weak. -9/10

Wormphlegm - Tomb of the Ancient King: Stunning epic doom. Three tracks averaging 20 minutes or so apiece form a breathtaking whole. The vocals and volume are harsh to the extreme, so non-initiates beware. It sounds like a concert broadcast directly from the bowels of Hell. Naturally I love it. -10/10

Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing: Obnoxious bubblegum pop. More thoughts of suicide listening to "Girlfriend" than my entire doom collection. 1/10

Nice. Download "Flood" and "Altar" if you don't have them already, genj.

I have like all of Boris' stand alone albums and I've yet to get around to listening to Vein and Soundtrack let alone go looking for their work with Sunn O))). I'll listen to the one FINNTROLL album I have instead.

Flood is all kinds of awesome but I think I like Amplifier Worship more.

EDIT - I do have Oracle though, the new 3 track double album from Sunn O)))!

hahahahaha, you have a Finntroll album.

I thought that United in Regret was aight, nothing more. the old material was much better live, and though I appreciate the non-loud/non-overcompressed mastering job, the album itself for me is more cool parts linked by stuff I phase out. the cool parts are really cool, like the middle part of "Lust" or the clean guitar bit in "Oh, the Humanity", but by and large it's got nothing on Diamond for Disease or even A Celebration of Guilt.

I'm a very negative person. But I like Drudkh!

I also have on my hard drive the newest DragonForce album and an mp3 of Agent Steel's "Agents of Steel" (possibly the worst metal song ever). It's hard to imagine some people take this stuff seriously.

Strange you should mention Drudkh, Boo. I'm listening to "The Swan Road" right now. Did I recommend them to you or is this yet another bizarre coincidence?

Dragonforce is only enjoyable on a kitsch level. You ought to download both of Acid Bath's albums as soon as possible.

Remind me how I came to love that band I'd never heard of until you started your viscous internet rumourmill up?

One day young EmP embarked on a quest to the 50 Cent (aka 25 Pence) concert, but they had 30 Seconds to Mars playing instead. He said "Blimey, govna', this is emo band is almost as good as me fish & chips."
