Title: VideoCritics enters beta phase
Posted: June 13, 2010 (06:23 PM)
In my efforts to pretend that VideoCritics.net is a game in development, I am now announcing that the site is in 'beta' mode. Users can register, post on the forums, contribute content and browse the site, while staff members can approve content and moderate on the forums as necessary. There aren't many listings in the database and there likely won't be for awhile, but I encourage you all to head over to the site and to use it as you normally would. There's a forum where you can report any errors you encounter and the like. Activity will be minimal at this point because, although Google somehow picked up the site and has spidered pages, for the most part no one but this community knows that the site even exists. I'm hoping that you all can help me catch any of the biggest issues before a proper launch.
And yes, I realize that the timing (day before E3) is bad, but later this week and from there out another few weeks, I'll have freelance work occupying much of my 'free' time. I wanted to get the toughest parts of the site coded and up and running, which I have just barely managed to do.
Now, it's off to work! The day job, I mean. I'll be checking in later, both here and on VideoCritics.net, in case any of you have any comments or questions to share.

Looks cool. Couple of questions:
What's the policy on television spoilers? Also, I take it you can only review television by seasons, and not individual episodes? I'm wondering because I've written thorough spoiler-filled episode reviews in the past, which were aimed at people who have already watched said episodes.

I registered, but I don't know if I'm gonna write a new review anytime soon. Maybe I might submit an old review after fixing it up, when the option becomes available. Yeah, that's... cheap, but I guess it's something. >_>

So this is your new site for reviewing movies, tv shows, etc.?

Reviews of individual episodes are possible and even encouraged. I anticipate that they will be full of spoilers, and there'll likely be verbage on the site to that effect so that readers know what to expect without the need for each review to individually designate itself as such.
And yes, this is the new site for movie and television reviews. :-D

Looks good, so far. I may do a few things for you in the upcoming weeks.
You need more staff members though.

I'll happily join and I'll probably bring all my content over from when I wrote reviews for the Examiner. As for new reviews, may not happen for a little bit as I, too, am going to be busy for a week or so.
Also, I may have just been blessed with my first girlfriend in over two years (maybe three?) and she's incredibly awesome and wonderfully time consuming.

Your content for the Examiner is welcome, if they don't have exclusive rights to it (which they may). Please check that out (or maybe you already know for sure?) before posting it.
Edit: Congrats on the possible girlfriend. Treat her right and all that jazz and maybe she'll return the favor!

Awesome. I should start reviewing the stuff I watch, huh. I won't request anything be added until I have a review written and ready to submit. Looks good so far, Jason.

Checked it out. It's cool. To be frank, I'll be much happier with it in your hands, Jason:

Really? I would have said grown from a tube. I am weird.

Who says I didn't give birth to her?
