Registered HG users are allowed to submit FAQs and guides, which may or may not be posted depending on whether or not they meet the site's quality standards. Below, some common questions. Click the hyperlinked question to skip directly to the answer on this page, or scroll down and read as you go.
How do I submit a FAQ or guide?
What are the FAQ and guide requirements?
Can I post someone else's FAQ or guide for them?
Who holds the rights to a FAQ or guide I submit?
Are co-written FAQs and guides allowed?
How do I view or leave feedback on FAQs and guides?
If you have a question that is not addressed on the page below, you should feel free to contact site staff or post about it on the forums. The latter option is preferred, since other users may be able to point you to an answer more quickly in some cases.
How do I submit a FAQ or guide?
There are two ways to submit a FAQ or guide. One method is to click "Submit" along the top bar of the site. Then you can choose a system and a game. Next a form will appear, which you should fill out completely and submit. The other method is to browse the site until you find the game for which you have written a FAQ or guide. Next, click the link near the bottom of the game profile page and you'll find yourself on the FAQ and guide submission form. Fill it out completely and submit. Regardless of the method you use, your content will be reviewed by a staff member before it is posted, to make sure that it meets the site's guidelines.
What are the FAQ and guide requirements?
Your FAQ or guide should be submitted in .txt format, with line breaks and characters properly applied. We prefer that your content not exceed 79 characters, though this is far from a set limit. However, the user should not be required to scroll horizontally in order to view your content. Many people who submit documents written in programs such as Microsoft Word do not realize that special steps are necessary in order to allow for their content to appear properly online. Specifically, you must select that you wish to save in ASCII format with line breaks and character substitution forced while selecting 'plain text' as your format. Submissions that do not meat these formatting standards may be rejected or revised so that they do.
Can I post someone else's FAQ or guide for them?
If you submit a FAQ or guide, you are asserting that you own the rights to that material. You are not permitted to submit content as an agent for another individual. You need to have written (or co-written) the submission or you are not permitted to send it to us. If we post a submission from you and later find that you were not the author, the material will be removed and your account will most likely be banned from the site. Please take this warning seriously, as we consider plagiarism completely unacceptable and will not have sympathy if we catch you in the act or learn of it after the fact. Thank you for your understanding.
Who holds the rights to a FAQ or guide I submit?
You retain all rights to any FAQs and guides that you contribute to the site. You are permitted to remove your content whenever you like (though we hope that you will not), and we will never compile your material for publication elsewhere without your explicit consent.
Are co-written FAQs and guides allowed?
If you have co-written a FAQ or guide with another member of the HonestGamers site, you are encouraged to submit the FAQ or guide using the standard method. During the submission process, you will be given the option to specify the username of your co-author. Please note that your coauthor needs to be an existing HonestGamers site user. If a co-author from another site helped write the FAQ, please gain his or her approval before contributing the FAQ. We will assume that you have your co-author's approval when contributing the FAQ. If an issue arises and one of the two authors contacts us asking for the FAQ to be removed, we will of course honor that request.
How do I view or leave feedback on FAQs and guides?
Once a FAQ or guide is posted on the site, other users are permitted to click a link from the top of the displayed content to leave feedback on it. If a thread has already been started, they'll be taken to that thread to view comments others have left, then they can leave some of their own. You will have the same options. This makes it easy to see what people are saying about your FAQs and guides (if anything), especially since feedback threads will be archived on the forums.
