Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Guide > Basics > Challenges

There are 105 "Challenges" in this game. They're broken into three groups, each group more difficult and time consuming than the one before it. Each challenge earns you a reward, with three challenges on each panel also earning you a golden hammer, which you can use to clear one of the challenges on that panel without meeting the requirements. Clearing enough challenges on a panel will unlock the next panel. Any challenges in new panels are retroactive, so they'll be unlocked as soon as you gain access to the panel if you've met their requirements before.

This is a list of all of the challenges, with advice for the tricky ones. They're organized by row and column. For example, "1.2" means the first row and second column, "1.7" means the first row and seventh column, "2.5" means the second row and fifth column, etc..

  • 5.3 Mr. Saturn Trophy: Win 2 Smash Battles with Ness.
  • 5.4 Spiny Hat Headgear (Golden Hammer): Play Cruel Smash for the first time. (Thankfully, you don't have to actually be at all successful.)

  • 5.6 Princess Zelda Wig Headgear: Win 2 Smash battles with Zelda.
  • 5.7 Blast Box Trophy: Score 100,000 or more in Target Blast.

You get the Super Star trophy for completing Panel 1.

Panel 2

  • 1.1 Lv. 2 Spinning Blades Smash Power (Golden Hammer): Place 1st in 5 different Smash Run final battles.
  • 1.2 Beam Sword Agility Blade Equipment: Get a max combo of 40 or more in Training. (Set damage to 999, then just grab the training dummy and mash the A attack to get tons of hits.)
  • 1.3 Menu 2 (Melee) Music: Unlock all playable fighters. (See the Unlockables section.)
  • 1.4 Sprinter Agility Badge Equipment (Golden Hammer): Create 3 custom characters in Custom. (This is referring to custom versions of standard characters like Mario and Samus, not Mii Fighters.)
  • 1.5 Close Combat Special (Ike): Destroy 1000 blocks in Trophy Rush. (Cumulative. Just play Trophy Rush until you unlock this.)
  • 1.6 Hyper Smasher Brawn Badge Equipment: Get 100 KO's in Smash. (Cumulative, obviously.)
  • 1.7 Redd Trophy: Get 150 or more unique trophies.
  • 2.1 King Bob-omb Trophy: Have a total high score of over 2,000,000 between (it's AMONG, dangit) all fighters in Target Blast. (Just do your best and play as a lot of characters in Target Blast. This is more intimidating than it looks.)
  • 2.2 Lv. 2 Shinespark Smash Power: Get a total of 5 hits in StreetSmash. ("Hits" is referring to streetpasses, so you'll need to actually streetpass with people to unlock this one the legit way. Or you can just use a golden hammer on it.)
  • 2.3 KO Healer Protection Badge Equipment: Get 10 or more KO's in a single Rival Smash.
  • 2.4 Golden Retriever Trophy: Battle 3 or more times in the Living Room stage in Smash.
  • 2.5 Mugly Trophy: Get 10 KO's by knocking foes into other foes in StreetSmash. (Can be done in practice. Just play practice matches against 12 bots at a time and you'll inevitably get this eventually.)
  • 2.6 Lv. 2 Instant Drop Smash Power: Obtain 25 types of Smash Run powers. (You can only get Smash Run powers in Smash Run or from some challenges.)
  • 2.7 Auto-Healer Brawn Badge: Clear 100-Man Smash. (This isn't too tough, but if you're having trouble, a character with high launching power and weight can make this easier.)
  • 3.1 Credits Music: Reveal 99% of the wall during the staff credits.
  • 3.2 Master Hand Trophy: Clear Classic mode with 10 fighters.
  • 3.3 Dark Emperor Trophy: Battle 3 or more times on the Find Mii stage in Smash.
  • 3.4 High Speed Drill Special (Meta Knight): Win 5 Smash Battles with Meta Knight.
  • 3.5 Flat Zone 2 Stage: Unlock Mr. Game & Watch. (See Unlockables section.)
  • 3.6 Master Core Music: Defeat Master Core. (Only appears in Classic mode on 5.1 Intensity or higher. Heavy, strong characters make bosses like this one easier. Cannot use a golden hammer on this challenge.)
  • 3.7 First Striker Ability Badge Equipment: Get 20 or more KO's by countering in StreetSmash. (Counters are when you hold R to shield, then dodge with the circle pad at the last moment, and immediately press A without aiming to automatically punish the foe with a powerful attack. This is easier to do when there are only a few enemies left. Can be done in Practice mode.)
  • 4.1 Home-Run Bat Agility Badge Equipment: Hit Sandbag 1968 feet or more in Home-Run Contest. (This one is tricky, but there's a somewhat simple strategy for it in the Home-Run Contest section.)
  • 4.2 Fire Stingray Trophy: Get 30 or more KO's in Endless Smash.
  • 4.3 Lv. 2 Horizon Beam Smash Power: Play Smash Run 5 times.
  • 4.4 Tortimer Island Trophy (Golden Hammer): Unlock every stage. (See Unlockables section.)
  • 4.5 Knuckle Joe Trophy: Play 10 Collective hours of Smash. (This series has always had a weird way of calculating this. The length of a match is multiplied by the number of human participants and added to the "collective" total. So play with friends to do this faster.)
  • 4.6 Samus' Helmet Headgear: Win 10 Smash battles with Samus.
  • 4.7 Smash Ball Attractor Agility Badge: Collect 15 unique special moves.
  • 5.1 Spartan Helmet Headgear: Collect 5 unique custom outfits.
  • 5.2 Critical Hitter Brawn Badge: Get 300 KO's in Smash. (Cumulative.)
  • 5.3 Quick Batter Brawn Badge: Play Home-Run Contest with 15 or more fighters.
  • 5.4 Top Hat Headgear: Create 8 or more Mii Fighters in Custom.
  • 5.5 Plate Armor Custom Outfit: Collect 10 unique custom headgear items.
  • 5.6 Medusa, Queen of the Underworld Trophy: Clear All-Star on Normal.
  • 5.7 Meloetta Pokemon: Have the game on for more than 8 hours.

You'll get the Tutorial Pig trophy for clearing the second panel.

Panel 3

  • 1.1 Guardian Trophy: Complete Classic on Intensity 9.0 "or higher" (There is no "higher." This is tough. The toughest part will be the boss fight with Master Core so bring someone who is good against bosses, like Charizard for Rock Smash. Cannot be unlocked with a Golden Hammer. Can use custom characters.)
  • 1.2 Lv. 3 Ore Club Smash Power: Hit Sandbad 3280 feet or more in Home-Run Contest. (See the Home-Run Contest section to learn how.)
  • 1.3 Lv. 3 Dual Cyclone Smash Power: Place first in 20 or more Smash Run final battles. (Cannot use a Golden Hammer for this.)
  • 1.4 Air Defender Protection Badge Equipment: Create 10 characters in Custom. (This means regular characters, not Mii Fighters.)
  • 1.5 Lv. 3 Health Recovery Smash Power: Get 40 or more KO's in a single Rival Smash. (Bowser is good for this.)
  • 1.6 Crouch Healer Protection Badge Equipment: Get at least 110 KO's in 3-Minute Smash. (See the Multi-Man Smash section for the easy way.)
  • 1.7 Evie Trophy: Collect all custom outfits, headgear, and special moves. (Some of these things are only available from Challenges.)
  • 2.1 Exploding Popgun Special (Diddy Kong): Destroy 3000 blocks in Trophy Rush. (Cumulative across all games of Trophy Rush.)
  • 2.2 Crazy Hand Trophy: Clear Classic with all fighters. (Can't use a Golden Hammer on this, but why would you?)
  • 2.3 Effortless Blade Special (Marth): Clear 100-Man Smash within 3 minutes. (See the Multi-Man Smash section for the cheap way.)
  • 2.4 Speed Walker Brawn Badge Equipment (Golden Hammer): Walk at least 21 miles total among all fighters. (Yeah, this is weird. You'll get this from playing matches. Playing lots of Smash Run probably speeds this up since there's a lot of walking/running in that mode.)
  • 2.5 Quick Smasher Protection Badge Equipment: Clear 10-Man Smash within 20 seconds. (Another one you'll want to bring a heavy hitter into. Stay on the higher platforms since that's where enemies spawn.)
  • 2.6 Leaper Agility Badge Equipment: Get a max combo of 400 or more between all fighters in Training. (This means less than 10 hits per character. That's nothing. You can get this in a few minutes if you set the dummy's damage to 999, grab them, wail on them with standard attacks until they get free, and then do it again with one or two other characters.)
  • 2.7 Regal Crown Headgear: Clear All-Star Mode with all characters. (Can't use a golden hammer, but you can do this on easy so there's no reason to anyway.)
  • 3.1 Steampunk Getup Custom Outfit: Destroy all red targets in Target Blast. (The red targets are the big ones. This isn't easy. See the Target Smash section for one semi-simple way to do it.)
  • 3.2 Sandbag Trophy: Reach a total of 49212 feet in Home-Run Contest among all fighters' high scores. (This isn't too difficult, since it's pretty easy to average between 1000 and 1500 feet for each character, and that's more than enough. A good 10th of this is obtainable with Ganondorf if you check the Home-Run Contest section.)
  • 3.3 Luigi with Poltergust 3000 Trophy (Golden Hammer): Obtain at least 500 unique trophies.
  • 3.4 Kat & Ana Trophy: Clear 10-Man Smash with all fighters.
  • 3.5 Explosive Punch Special (Mario): Score 200,000 or more in Target Blast. (See the Target Blast section for details.)
  • 3.6 Shadow Trophy: Clear Solo 100-Man Smash with all characters. (This means you can't do it in multiplayer mode. Not that it's too difficult solo.)
  • 3.7 Color-TV Game 15 Trophy: Play 50 collective hours of Smash. (The total of all matches of Smash mode. A match is worth 2, 3, or 4 times as much time if there are 2, 3, or 4 human players involved.)
  • 4.1 Lv. 3 Shuffle Smash Power: Place fist in Smash Run final battles with all fighters. (Sometimes you'll get screwed by having to run a footrace as Ganondorf or something. If that happens, just try again.)
  • 4.2 Lv. 3 High Jump Smash Power: Jump at least 6 miles total between all fighters. (This will happen naturally. Unless you're one of those people who just uses Little Mac in For Glory mode all day, in which case, you don't deserve this anyway.)
  • 4.3 Dark Train Trophy: Play Target Blast with all fighters.
  • 4.4 Koopa Troopa (Green) Trophy: Get 20 KO's by knocking foes into other foes in StreetSmash. (Works in practice mode. Practice against he maximum number of bots and just go nuts a few times.)
  • 4.5 Protective Gear Custom Outfit: Get a max combo of 100 or more in Training. (Difficult to do if you don't use the tried and tested method of setting damage to 999%, grabbing the training dummy, and mashing A until they get loose.)
  • 4.6 Princess's Crown Headgear (Golden Hammer): Have the game on for more than 20 hours.
  • 4.7 Lion Hat Headgear: Get 4 or more KO's in Cruel Smash. (See the Multi-Man Smash section for cheap tactics.)
  • 5.1 Nintendoji Trophy: Clear All-Star on Hard. (Not all thaaat hard. You can treat it like a Multi-Man Smash and just use a character that can one- or two-shot most of these enemies. Get on the highest platform on each stage as Bowser and wait for them to come to you so you can up smash them into the sun.)
  • 5.2 Moon Launcher Brawn Badge Equipment: Get 1000 KO's in Smash. (Cumulative.)
  • 5.3 Shield Exploder Protection Badge: Get 2 or more KO's in Cruel Smash. (Easier than 4 but still very difficult. See the Multi-Man Smash section.)
  • 5.4 Lv. 3 Launch Ring Smash Power: Get 200 or more KO's in Endless Smash. (Use a heavy character that is good at surviving, like Bowser, or use the same strategy from the Multi-Man Smash section that you used for a couple of other challenges.)
  • 5.5 Prince Hat Headgear: Collect all Smash Run powers. (You'll have to play a lot of Smash Run and unlock a lot of challenges to get this one. Some powers are ONLY obtainable by clearing challenges.)
  • 5.6 All-Star Rest Area Music: Clear All-Star with 15 fighters.
  • 5.7 Wentworth Trophy: Collect 600 or more unique trophies.

Your prize for clearing all of these super tough challenges is the Gold Bone trophy.
