Sure it's hard as hell, doesn't follow the plot of the movie it's based on, and has a truly terrible ending, but it's a very solid gameplay experience. And if you don't find "Drug Squad" appearing over Harrigan's head every time he picks up some bonus points funny, then shame on you. ===== Walkthrough ================================================= 02.00 ==== Periodically, the Predator's aiming reticule will appear on the screen. If you get caught directly in the centre of it, you'll be killed (regardless of Flak Jacket integrity). You can pass through any other part of it without ill effect, however. If the reticule passes over a hostage, they'll fare no better (three dead hostages equals game over). A hostage will also be lost if you scroll the screen past them. ----- Level 1 - The Streets --------------------------------------- 02.01 ---- Password: N/A Weapons: Assault Rifle, Grenade, Shotgun, Thompson Rescue: 5 hostages Enemies, for the most part, favour doorways - if you see one, expect some company of the unwelcome kind. With that said, it won't always possible to accurately predict when and where an enemy will appear (a good example being obscured doorways along the bottom of the screen, or them simply appearing from the edge of the screen). The guys who appear in the windows throughout the level always shoot at an angle (if they bug you, you can dispose of them with Grenades - it doesn't matter if they're visible at the time), the same goes for the guys who pop out from below the manhole covers (shooting the cover while they're hiding will kill them - don't wait for 'em to pop out). The street-level enemies only ever attack by making contact with you (being touched to death is so lame). When you reach the second hostage, it'll be the first time you encounter the Predator's aiming reticule. The reticule appears again shortly after the third hostage (if the reticule is targeting a hostage, it'll nearly always disappear as soon as that hostage is rescued. If the reticule, however, is targeting you, you'll simply need to avoid it for a set period of time). At the same time as the reticule appears, you'll be greeted by a helicopter swooping in from the top of the screen (it drops a small bomb, then leaves). It makes its reappearance up near the fourth hostage, and again at the end of the level. ___________ /BOSS - TAXI\__________________________________________________________________ Run up to the centre of the Taxi and unload with the Shotgun at point-blank range (you'll be perfectly safe here). The guys that come from the left and right of the screen won't be able to reach you in the time it takes you to kill the boss. 17 hits, 5 seconds, home in time for tea. _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 2 - The Roof Level ------------------------------------ 02.02 ---- Password: SPOCGURD Weapons: Grenade, Thompson Rescue: 6 hostages The guys that hide in the skylights work exactly the same as the ones hiding under the manholes (in the respect that they fire at an angle, and can be killed by attacking the place they appear from). This level introduces a lot of fixed enemies. Fixed enemies, of course, have guns, but they can't change direction once you're past them (enemies laying prone fire in a straight line, enemies kneeling down usually fire diagonally). After the first hostage, the Predator's aiming reticule makes a timely appearance, and it does so over a small walkway (yay). Head up a little to lure it off the walkway, then make your way across before it readjusts. After the second guy in the manhole, the path splits into two. The lower path allows you to reach the second hostage before the Predator picks him off. The reticule appears again near the third (shortly before and shortly after), fourth, and fifth hostages. _________________ /BOSS - HELICOPTER\____________________________________________________________ If you stand in the bottom left corner, you'll be able to avoid damage from the two sewer guys here. The boss attacks using a split shot - one down the middle, one left, and one right (the further away you are, the wider the shot spreads out before it reaches you). With the Pistol and full health, you can quite easily stand and trade shots with the damn thing. Its insane rate-of- fire will see you taking down the boss with health to spare. _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 3 - Street -------------------------------------------- 02.03 ---- Password: ROTADERP Weapons: Grenade, Thompson Rescue: 5 hostages Back on the mean streets, Ooh, yeah, mean streets. Exactly the same deal as the first level, except enemies are slightly quicker and more abundant. There's also a higher concentration of enemies occupying windows (Grenades are especially useful here). The Predator's reticule appears almost right on top of the first hostage (watch out for the bike), then again shortly after. Same deal with the second, third hostages (several more bikes appear when the street widens out a bit), and fourth hostages (but not after). There's one more bike not too far before the last hostage. __________ /BOSS - VAN\___________________________________________________________________ The boss cannot be damaged as long as the doors are closed, and even then, only the area near the open doors can be damaged. When the doors *do* open, you'll be greeted with a barrel in the face (it can be destroyed). You don't have to stand directly in front of the open doors to stand a chance of doing damage, you can actually stand to the right of the doors (at the very bottom) and attack with impunity. You'll have to turn around occasionally to shoot the guys coming from the right of the screen, though. _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 4 - Subway -------------------------------------------- 02.04 ---- Password: SEGATSOH Weapons: Assault Rifle, Thompson Rescue: 4 hostages This level sees the addition of a frightening new enemy - a pigeon. This terrible visage will appear near the first hostage (to its credit, it's very persistent). It might be worth pointing out that when the train in the background stops, some thugs will get off to punch your ticket. The Predator's reticule after the first hostage, then again near and after the second. When you lay your eyes upon the third hostage, a frightening new enemy appears! No, not another pigeon. The Predator! Well, a Predator... well, a very girly Predator. It attacks by hurling Smart-Discs in a (somewhat zigzag-y) straight line. At the same time, its bigger brother is targeting the hostage. The reticule appears almost on top of the last hostage, then again shortly thereafter. Another Predator appears seconds before the end of the level. ___________ /BOSS - PUNK\__________________________________________________________________ The train at the top of the screen moves backwards and forwards. Oh, yeah, the boss is riding the train. He's riding the train with a flamethrower - health and safety violation right there. Obviously, you can only hit him when he pokes his head out of the door. The blasts are easy to avoid, it's the guys coming from the sides of the screen really quickly that's of greater concern - this makes dealing prolonged damage to the boss a bit of a pain. Concentrate on clearing the screen, hit the boss when you can (make use of diagonal shots, and the fact that you can still damage him by shooting the empty doorway). _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 5 - Slaughterhouse ------------------------------------ 02.05 ---- Password: NAGIRRAH Weapons: Shotgun, Thompson Rescue: 5 hostages The Predator you're faced with at the start of the level is going to be one of many. The path just ahead splits into two - you need to be on the top path in order to reach the hostage before the reticule does. The manholes have been replaced by inspection hatches here, other than being a little faster, the enemies they hide are the same - a few, however, have taken to shooting in straight lines). The hatches are actually quite hard to see against the floor, but the guys below them are quick to give themselves away. The reticule appears again shortly after the first hostage, along with another Predator. Another reticule and another Predator are hanging out near hostage number three From this point on, expect to see more straight-shooting from the guys in the floor. The path again splits into two, the hostage and the reticule are on the top path, but the Predator is only after you this time, and will ignore the hostage completely. You can still reach the hostage from the bottom path, and there's more room to avoid the reticule there. When the path splits again, the bottom path, despite the Predator, is the path of less resistance (read: less bullets to the face). Just up ahead, expect another split path and another visit from the reticule - the hostage sits on the top path. The Predator/hostage/reticule combo is so popular, you'll see it one more time before the level is done. ______________ /BOSS - BUTCHER\_______________________________________________________________ The boss is isolated at the top of the screen, so you can't reach him directly. There are two of those guys that hide under the floor at the top, and very many enemies pouring in from either side of the screen. The boss itself will appear from one of the three doors at the top and throw a meat cleaver at you - for a meat cleaver, it actually has pretty good homing, and is pretty much guaranteed a hit if you're directly in front of the boss (if you're not, a simple sidestep will do). The centre of the room is a totally rad spot to stand. Not only will you not get hit by the shooters, you'll be able to kill any enemy within a second of it coming onto the screen. Don't bother playing kiss-chase with the boss, just stand your ground and trade hits with him when he shows up in the central doorway (the Pistol does nicely). When he's had enough, he'll drop to his knees, and that's when you finish him. _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 6 - Street -------------------------------------------- 02.06 ---- Password: LAICIFFO Weapons: Grenade, Thompson, Rescue: 5 hostages Back to the mean streets for the third (and thankfully final) time. The enemies have once again gotten faster and more abundant, but the guys in the windows (by far the most annoying enemies here) have decreased in number. The reticule appears near first hostage (then shortly after, along with some bikes), then again near and after hostages two and four (there are more bikes near that one). ____________ /BOSS - TRUCK\_________________________________________________________________ The safest place is in front of the truck door. When the door opens, the boss pops out and fires three shots (to the left, down the centre, then to the right). You can trade with the centre shot (using the trusty Pistol), as always, you'll do much greater damage in a much shorter space of time. Occasionally, you'll need to take out the guys coming from the sides of the screen, but they're not as quick to flood as they have been with other bosses). _______________________________________________________________________________ ----- Level 7 - Alien Ship ---------------------------------------- 02.07 ---- Password: N/A Weapons: Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Smart-Disc, Thompson Rescue: 7 hostages The only humans you'll find here are the hostages. Considering the amount of hostages, this level is no larger than any other, they just happen to be packed closer together. The entire cast of enemies here consists of Predators, and it's most assuredly a cast of thousands. Due to the shear amount of meat- shields, the Pistol is barely going to make any impact on the enemy waves - by time you've killed one, another two will have made their way onto the screen. The Thompson is probably the best gun you could use here without damaging your chances against the boss. Grenades, while they won't work against the enemies hiding in the vents, will certainly help you clear away the inevitable groups. Some of the Predators have taken to throwing spears. While they're in the air, you can just walk forward to avoid them. Once they impact the ground, however, they'll explode. Individually, nothing special - when there are three or four flying through the air at you, different story. Speaking of Predator weaponry, you will find the Smart-Disc near the first hostage. The Smart-Disc travels as you would expect, and will kill Predator's in a single hit. Their numbers are limited (there are only fifteen), however, and they are best kept for the boss battle. Our friend, the reticule, appears near to and slightly after every hostage, with the notable exception of the third and fifth. _______________ /BOSS - PREDATOR\______________________________________________________________ Time for the final boss battle, suckers! The Predator will appear out of one of the doorways at the top of the screen. When he does, he'll either throw a Spear or Smart-Disc down the screen - if you're at the bottom of the screen, then these have a (maybe not so) surprisingly good homing effect. The boss itself will not be what kills you, though, it'll be the droves of the smaller Predators that fill the screen with their projectiles. Stay near the top of the screen, that way, while you're attacking the boss, they can easily be caught in the line-of-fire (as they'll spawn at the top of the screen). At the top of the screen, as long as you keep a fair distance from the boss, he'll never hit you (his Smart-Discs has a habit of catching you if you're too close). The Smart-Discs and Shotgun play an incredibly large role in your potential victory. The Assault Rifle and Thompson (along with any spare Grenades you may have) are much better suited to crowd control). Quite helpfully, the Predator's hit-box is slow to follow him from a doorway, meaning you can blast away for a little while longer. In all likelihood, though, it'll come down to you and your trusty Pistol. If you should empty your most damaging weapons into the boss and then die before you can finish the job, you may as well just hit the reset button - the boss simply cannot be killed with the Pistol alone (well, he can, but you'll sure as hell fail at crowd control with it). _______________________________________________________________________________ ===== Frequently Asked Questions ================================== 03.00 ==== === General Questions === Q: Why isn't there a password for the final level? A: The final level probably doesn't have a password simply because without a couple of levels worth of weapons collecting, it would range from insanely difficult to virtually impossible to complete. A password would serve no merit if no-one used it. === Questions About This Guide === Q: Can I use your guide on my site? A: As of this moment, no you cannot host my guide. Why? Because I believe that the number of sites that I’m allowing to host this guide is enough, enough to keep track of and enough to provide adequate distribution to you, the wonderful FAQ-reading public. Q: I have this guide, would it be okay if I used a part of yours? A: *Chokes* part of mine? What would be the point of that? You can use my guide as reference for all the things that I can’t own (i.e. facts), but you can’t go lifting entire paragraphs, even if you credit me for it. Just read the copyright notice at the top of this guide, and then think twice before 'borrowing' anything from me. Q: If I've found something that you were too stupid to include, or something that you've missed, what should I do? A: You could take it, turn it sideways and shove it... *ahem* just drop me a line and tell me in exact detail as to what it was that I screwed up on or missed out. If you can help me to make this guide more accurate, you’ll win a cookie, a kudos cookie (great on calories, lousy on taste). ===== Credits and Outro =========================================== 05.00 ==== It's over? Wow, I mean, I could have done another twenty-or-so levels. Really? Not in the slightest. As always, you've been a wonderful audience, a right cheery bunch.
