Staff review by Jason Venter (June 23, 2008) Special weapons add a lot of strategy to the game and are perhaps the most exciting change. Any time you slaughter four aliens of the same hue in succession, you'll receive a corresponding special shot. This is attached to a meter that quickly drains, but while you are supercharged you can unleash a triple-wide shot (green), explosive shells (red) or a devastating laser beam (blue). |

Staff review by Marc Golding (July 09, 2008) Each boss battle is pretty clever, but one in particular is especially so: the boss will actually move back and forth along the bottom of the lower screen, while you take up a new position, along the bottom of the top screen. There, you will stand off against reflector aliens, and attempt to time your shots so that they get reflected back your way, slipping past you, hitting the boss below. All this while he shoots up at you as well. Brilliant stuff. |

Reader review by deft (August 05, 2008) The old series are getting a comeback, Pac-Man, Mario, Galaga, etc. They are also getting remade for the current generation of consoles and handhelds. Taito is celebrating Space Invaders 30th anniversary with a BANG with the release of Space Invaders Extreme, same old game with a new twist. |

Reader review by disco (June 16, 2008) We should have seen this coming. It was inevitable, really. Despite all the bloody battles and hard-earned victories, the human race was never really safe. Not from these things, anyway. No matter how many of them you kill, there will always be more of them. Wave after pixilated wave of spaceships are now wandering the skies, descending ever so slowly like a waterfall in slow motion. There is no water here, though; these bastards are dishing out laser beams, bullets, missiles, and whatever else ... |
