The only real problem with Honeycomb Beat (aside from its insistence that I share anything in common with aquatic invertebrates) is that it's not a game that will be played in long stretches; it's a half-an-hour-before-closing-the-DS one.

The game’s real beauty is that it has something for any puzzle game aficionado. If you like to take your time and think things through, the ‘Puzzle’ mode is that perfect blend of frustration and addiction that will keep you locked in its icy, wicked grasp for a very long while. Meanwhile, ten stages of varying speed give ‘Evolution’ mode some definite longevity.

When you’re done in Honeycomb Beat’s Puzzle Mode, you’re done. This is fine, except the only rewards are unlockable backgrounds. No hotties in bikinis, colorful fireworks, or even an exciting song to dance around to. At this point, I would even settle for a measly “Congratulations” screen.
