Staff review by Gary Hartley (February 04, 2009) The idiot guards conspire to make one point very clear: Assassin’s Creed is a game set amongst a flock of intolerable dumbness. |

Staff review by Jason Venter (November 23, 2007) When you first enter a city, you'll generally follow the same process: climb a tower to reveal more of the map, visit your guild, investigate until you have enough clues to find your target, then take his life. Along the way, you can stop soldiers from picking on unlucky citizens and you can scale the tallest structures to aid in your search, but a lot of that is unnecessary and time-consuming. Even the investigations themselves grow old, since they almost always involve punching someone a few times, picking a pocket or sitting down on a bench to eavesdrop on suspicious characters. |

Staff review by Mike Suskie (April 23, 2008) Altaïr’s actions are divided between socially acceptable and socially unacceptable, and you can switch between the two with the right trigger. Unfortunately, Assassin’s Creed is one of those sandbox games where the “cops” (i.e. the guards) want to kill you for every little thing that you do. And since all of Altaïr’s best and most convenient abilities are considered suspicious behavior, expect to attract quite a bit of attention from the local law enforcement. This includes the act of running, which evidently is a sin punishable by death. |

Reader review by horror_spooky (November 21, 2007) Gamers everywhere have been anxiously awaiting the release of Assassin’s Creed ever since it’s original announcement. I have to admit, after watching trailers and videos of Creed’s gameplay, I was more than impressed and I had a feeling that the experience would be totally mind-blowing. Sadly, Assassin’s Creed isn’t that pinnacle of gaming that most people thought it would be, but it’s still better than most games, which means you should definitely give it a look. |

Reader review by johnny_cairo (February 20, 2008) At long last, a medieval Grand Theft Auto crossed with Virtuosity with a whole lot of Hashishism and no small amount of heinous Arabic stereotypes. To be fair, Ubisoft Montreal consists of many people of differing beliefs and opinions, so there is no doubt the handful of Christian characters are also uptight, militant arseholes. Yes, it's the Middle East during the Crusades, the glorious 12th century AD. Even in the heart of Mesopotamia, everyone speaks in the tongue of the heretic... |

Reader review by Mega5010 (March 24, 2011) Stealth is not important as you’d think. With a name like Assassin’s Creed, wouldn’t you expect the gameplay to revolve around sneaking around and killing your targets and getting out undetected? Of course you would! The brotherhood makes a big deal about not drawing attention, but you’ll find its borderline impossible NOT to draw attention. Most of the assassinations take place in crowded, guarded areas, full of frustrating gameplay mechanics like twitchy guards and troublemakers. |

News articleFeature by Rhody Tobin (April 18, 2012) An American research engineer and author named John Beiswenger is suing both Ubisoft and Game Trailers, claiming the story of Assassin's Creed is too similar to his novel, Link, to be a coincidence. |
