Staff review by Rob Hamilton (October 27, 2006) I remember feeling a sense of impending doom late in the game, as I controlled James as he descended through what seemed a nonstop series of holes in the ground. To me, this small section of the game seemed more of a metaphor for my character’s mental state as he came closer to discovering the truth. And who could blame him for being a little bit over the edge by this point?

There’s the kind that goes for the obvious and cheap shock-scare, like Jason in a mask with a chainsaw, or the leering zombie who jumps out from behind the table accompanied by a scream and a stab of high-pitched violins. Turns out I was wrong, and Silent Hill actually turned out be a truly scary game with an original storyline. Reader review by kid_karny (Date unavailable) Silent Hill released by Konami years back that put fear into the player with it's rich and immersive atmosphere, creepy sounds, gory monsters and buckets of blood. Then along came the sequel, with it came the hype. The original was loved by many and was quoted as being the scariest game of all time. This sets lofty expectations for the sequel. Many of them simply scare me senseless, to the point where I can't even bring myself to pick up the controller when it's dark.
