It's like a 2D mission-based Dynasty Warriors. From your headquarters, you'll pick a new objective then run out onto a hand-painted map and button-mash to kill all the orcs, skeletons, and whatnot in sight. There are some skills that you can use, but for the most part you'll be tapping a single button over and over. Unfortunately, Shining Tears lacks most of the things that made Dynasty Warriors famous.

I've never been much of a fan of the Shining Series. I was playing games like Final Fantasy II and III while other kids, I'm led to believe, were playing Shining Force I and II. Admittedly, I owned a Genesis before I owned a Super Nintendo, but the Super Nintendo was just better, and it knew it. It was stylish and confident, like a quiet, attractive girl who reads books written by smart people and listens to classical music. From the original Shining in the Darkness to the mystical yet inconclusive Shining Force III, I’ve always been a die-hard fan of one of Sega’s most prominent RPG series. And while I could mutter eloquent praise for their latest installment—Shining Tears—it would only be from a “fan boy” standpoint.
