"a new JRPG from Ride On and Kemco, doesn't waste time putting together a cute premise and putting players to work. I like that quality, but did the storytelling have to be quite so clumsy?"

The best way to answer that question you posed is to simply remind you that you did type the word "Kemco" in the first sentence and they go together with clumsy storytelling like peanut butter goes with jelly.

But it's nice to see that someone else has stepped up and kept the KEMCO KHALLENGE alive, if only for a brief moment! And you picked one that seems to be reasonably original by their standards, so you got a bonus. At least better than Cut-n-Paste Exe-Create RPG #3485 that only has a few cosmetic differences to separate it from their other 3484 games.

I have a fair number of Kemco games in my collection, between iPhone, Switch and PS4, so it's possible this won't be the last Kemco RPG you see me cover. I just don't think I'll ever cover a lot of them in rapid succession. I like to play games from a variety of genres, especially since RPGs tend to be so time-consuming (even though I love the genre).

Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2

Yeah, I dunno how Rob plays all these RPGs. Don't they each take like 100 hours to beat? Unless you just sample them and move on...?

Well, the Kemco ones are 10-25 hours with a few being even shorter. But yeah, I do play a lot of longer action-RPGs and RPGs. Just followed up GTA V (80ish hours) with Kingdoms of Amalur (110 or so). Probably why my review output used to be 40-50 a year and now is 20-30.

Yes, that does explain the decline in review production. I checked my Steam profile and the game I've invested the most hours in is a metroidvania called The Messenger, and I'm only clocking in at 19 hours for that. All my other favourites show hours that are significantly less, with Cuphead and Gunmetal Arcadia racking up hours in the low teens. Short attention span, clearly. My short ass reviews would seem to bear that out as well.
