I disagree with a lot of what you say in this review, but can't really argue any of the points. Other than Super Hexagon>Velocibox. Golding be tripping.

This whole 'watering it down for the console crowd' seems an unfortunate move, but it sounds like you'd have disliked full fat Velocibox even more.

Is this "one review a week" the new norm, I wonder.

I suspect that most true believers would not be pleased with this 'negative review.' I don't know that this reads overwhelmingly negative though; the game just isn't for me, but I get why it might be an unhealthy addiction for some.

One other thing: I do wonder how many casual gamers sing the game's praises for fear of the most obvious reprisal: you don't like it because you suck.

Ah, that old chestnut.

I dunno. I'm not great at the game but I still adore it. Ben did significantly better than I, but the git gud hammer would be strong with this one.

This review doesn't come across as unnecessarily harsh to me, even though I figure a lot of Velocibox fans will be tempted to say mean things about your skills as a gamer. It sounds, actually, like something I could see myself writing if I were to play the game (just based on how I've seen other people praise it for things I'd likely just find annoying). It was a great review, not sticking to any tiresome formula but still covering all of the sort of stuff that a review needs to. Great stuff, in other words, as usual!

"What if everything you see is more than what you see--the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2

You should have just given it one star for the simple reason of how much fun it would be to watch EmP's head explode upon realizing that you gave a game he really liked the same score that he gave Scottie Pippen's Slam City.

And that would be very entertaining!

I would need something to entertain me after Slam City. God help me, it is not even close to the worst 32X game I have managed to cover -- both of those coming soon. Ish.
