I would love to see this definitely happen, and a version released in North America. I think the first two Yakuza games would benefit from HD touchups, and this would allow the whole series (at the moment) to be playable on one platform. That reminds me: I still need to snag Yakuza 3. And 1 and 2, for that matter. Was 2 even released here, though? All I actually own is 4... and the first one, in Japanese, which does me no good now that my modded PS2 is toast.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure without looking it up and I have too many tabs open at the moment as it is. Anyway, Yakuza 3 is on its way to me, and I'll hold out hope for an NTSC version of this compilation. I love me some HD collections!

How is the Yakuza series? I've heard the later games are pretty enjoyable, but how about the earlier games? Also, are they basically sandbox games?

Think Shenmue + some RPG stuff + Japanese mobsters.

I love the Yakuza series. They're like part brawler, part RPG, part whacky optional Shenmue side diversions with a convoluted Japanese soap opera story. The first Yakuza has aged poorly - the combat system is pretty slow & clunky compared to later installments, the loading times are long, and the translation & dubbing are total ass. The story is pretty ridiculous but legitimately enjoyable. Yakuza 2, while pretty expensive for a complete copy, is fucking awesome. Great story, great combat, lots of content. 3 & 4 are awesome (Dead Souls is for hardcore fans only), but they're more enjoyable having familiarity with the series & characters.

I would totally buy this if it came out here. I've been wanting to get into the Yakuza franchise for some time.
