I was surprised to see you'd reviewed this game, Rob. That's knowledge of a rare title, is what that is. Or maybe not "rare" but not very well known these days. Did you ever see the AVGN video on the SQ series? It's pretty epic:

That's a really interesting comment. Back when it came out, Swordquest was a very hyped, very ambitious series that sold enough to warrant several episodes, but couldn't sustain itself to completion. The modern irrelevance of Swordquest makes all the hype seem pretty silly.

Will we look at Xenosaga and Uncharted in the same way 20 years from now?

Yeah, I did see that AVGN episode. Friend of mine pointed me to his Milon's Secret Castle one because he'd seen it and it reminded him of me when I ranted about that horrid game constantly. I saw that one, too, and really liked it. He was actually kind of ... respectful? At least compared to most of his rants. Which I could understand. It was a very advanced concept for the time; it just was on a system not really capable of handling advanced concepts with too much proficiency.

RE: Will we look at Uncharted the same way 20 years from now?

I mean, it will probably be a forgotten game. Will that carry the same irony as Swordquest? No, because Uncharted's pre-order bonus didn't include actual gold doubloons.

EDIT: And Xenogasa's already been forgotten.
