Day one purchase for sure.

The last three have all been day-one purchases for me, but Revelations made me a bit less enthusiastic for the future of this series. Having said that, this game looks awesome.

I think the likely scenario is that there is the A team, which was responsible for Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, and there is the B team that was responsible for Brotherhood and Revelations, using assets that the A team put together while creating 2. Now 3 is about to release, the result of most of three years of work by the A team. It looks very much like what I would expect, given that likely pedigree. I need to hurry up and play through the games. They're on my shelf, waiting for me to get busy with them, and I keep not doing so. :-(

Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2

I need to go through Revelations. I rented it but I just could not get into it and ended up returning it after playing it very little. The only thing that is making me want to go through it now is--if I know the series--I would be missing something utterly crucial at the end if I were to pass.

After Assassin's Creed 1, I lost all desire to play anything like it ever again.

This looks good, but I'm almost wondering if this is one of those "wait till the last game in the series because then they finally get all the mechanics right" situations. Like, it seems that every new game has better moves, better graphics, and better use of parkour than the last game. I've already given up on understanding any aspect of the story, so I'm kind've wondering if it won't pay off to wait until Assassin's Creed 6.17 on the fully-immersive PS10 to even bother getting involved.

I enjoyed Revelations somewhat, but it was lazy-feeling relative to the surprisingly good Brotherhood. I went in with fairly low expectations that the story wasn't going anywhere and it was mostly more of the same. I had heard rumors before release that it was originally meant to be a 3DS game, which actually explains a lot of the bad new features (the bombs and den battles feel like they're meant to be controlled with a stylus, also the inclusion of 3D mode). With that in mind, it makes sense why it's not up to par with the last two major console releases in the series.
