Even Konami is desperate to pretend Silent Hill: The Room never existed.

Don't blame them a bit.

I'm still surprised I went all the way through that crapsterpiece....twice!

I only ever beat Silent Hill 2 (got the shitty ending) and Silent Hill Shattered Memories (which was actually very memorable and yet boring enough I will never ever play it again). Silent Hill 1 creeps me out to the point where I have difficulty playing it, though I think I got about half way through last time I booted it up. The cutscenes add a nice bit of humour to everything. It's like they got their cousins to do all the voice overs.

I'll be preoccupied on March 6 with you-know-what, but I can't wait to check out a series I've heard so many good things about and have so little experience with. Which reminds me, I still need to pick up Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

I'll admit I'm too much of a sissy to play Silent Hill games. Never played one, likely never will. :(

I wish they'd give the first game the update it deserves.

That would be too much like a good idea, Marc. Konami seems to have a self-imposed limit of good ideas. Also, Konami seems to have exceeded that limit a few years back and is now waiting for its supply to replenish. So maybe we'll see the first game remade in 2017, if Konami is still around?

"What if everything you see is more than what you see--the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world2

I've noticed a growing trend with Konami in regards to coming up with bad ideas. A Castlevania rail shooter and Silent Hill game without weapons? Lemme guess, we'll soon see a Suikoden 3D fighting game...

EDIT:
Or worse: Contra World Cup Racing.

I would play Contra World Cup Racing... with Bears.

I would also play Contra World Cup Racer... but only if it was Contra versus Mario World Cup Racer.

As for Silent Hill without weapons, I actually think more Survival Horror games could benefit from taking away a player's ability to fight effectively, if they did so and maintained strong level and scenario design. After all, camera angles and poor controls did this back in the 90's and that's what made the original games tense for me, not to mention fatal frame (which was damn near unplayable because of its sucky controls) and Resident Evil (which became a lot less scary when they moved everything into the daytime and gave you access to submachine guns).

I wrote something to this effect a long time ago for Lewis' mag.

If it was Contra Extreme Racing or something with explosions, sure. But I'm talking plain Jane vanilla by-the-books racing without explosions.

Then it wouldn't be Contra Racing ;)
