How has the game gone gold before its release?

The phrase "going gold" means that a game's final code is completed, that no more changes will be made before it is pressed on discs or digitally packaged for distribution. It's not a reference to any sales figures. I know it means something completely different in the music industry, where records go gold or platinum or whatever. Look at it as the equivalent of the movie industry's "in the can" term.

I'm somewhat excited for this game, yet somewhat cautious. I think this is another one I'll be waiting for reviews on.
