You know, I haven't played Civilization since the very first one (way back on a Mac Classic!) but it seems like the series really hasn't evolved greatly since then. The graphics are much better and I'm sure some non-superficial things have been enhanced too, but the flimsy diplomacy and board-gamey fighting brought back memories of that original Civilization.

Civilization IV was fantastic and I believe is still regarded as the best in the series. Based on its strengths, I picked up Civilization V on Steam recently when it was on sale for $18, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
